Rather than fix the front number plate to the grill, can I fix it elsewhere with a bracket? Legally I must use the number plate (rather than a sticker with the reg on it) and wondered if I could fix it to the body work above the grill (under the bonnet, but not to the bonnet).

It's an early Chimaera, so the grill is one piece.

fix it to the bottom of the grill
Good option - I take it you mean to the body under the grill? Guess I would need a bar or something?

Nice - Will work on putting the plate on the lower part of the grill - alas, it's illegal in South Australia to use stickers. It has to be the state created number plate (pressed steel).

HCM, did you screw the number plate screws straight into the grill? Or use nuts and bolts?

Neither, double sided numberplate stickies,

HCM.
What's that?! Surely you don't mean those little stickies that come from the stationers or is this something more specific?!

Thanks everyone for the replies. In the end I made a mounting bracket out of shelf bracket and some rubber washing machine grommets as a temporary solution. Going to get a powder coated black bar and proper fittings for a more professional look.

Had noticed during fitting that the original plate was screwed to the two diagonal plate mounts behind the grill (both screw holes were different sizes!).

Hi - have a look at my profile image - this plate screws straight into teh GRP below teh grill with 2 self tappers.

I ordered a smaller type plate which has never been picked up by the poilce or on the MOT and looks great while allowing max airflow

Job done
Nice wheels too! They're not standard are they? Would like to change mine from the 5 spoke ones - they're peeling
