what engine for 72 bgt.
Discussion
My friend and I bought a gt nearly 10 years ago when we had time but no cash, now finally we have cash but struggle to get the time to sort it, however the car is in primer and we have a garage full of new bits, carpets, seats, suspension, fuel tank, chrome work, loom etc etc . Car solid with new A,B posts, floors, panels , cross members wings etc. The only thing that is bothering me is the 1.8 engine. I have recently bought a tvr chimaera 4.5l and have begun to consider a more potent engine for the mgb. Not wanting to start a war but any suggestions for a replacement . ease fitting and set up , not having to modify engine bay , work required are all high priority. I'm not wanting to equal the sort of power the tvr puts out but something a little more sprightly than the 90 BHP the 1.8 generates ( if lucky ). Thanks for comments. Can't see the point in spending £1000 + on a reconditioned mgb unit when U could buy a v6 for £300 for example. Thanks...Rob
Yes slightly in love with the rover v8 after buying the tvr! , looked into k series quite expensive conversion, the engine that wad in the car was the best bit, wondering if uprated cam and Webber carbs would be better / cheaper option??, we had the head skimmed and the valves and springs returned etc..
Going for Kent cam, head modified and fast road jetted Weber carb hopefully 130-140 BHP, may look at tubular manifold too to finish it off. Least car kept ( sort of ) original. Already bought new loom and recon overdrive box so may as well stick to b series engine. Possibly loose a bit of weight, Alloy bonnet, sump and ditch rostyles for minilites.
