I ave been looking at a yellow trophy for sal at a sort of dealer in Ivybridge Devon, (it was also on eb*y) but has dissapeared so may be sold.
It looked ok, the steering wheel was tatty, broken aerial but had 52k miles and hardtop included for a 1750 asking price.
I had a Chimaera a coupla yrs ago and loved the poke BUT to me it just didnt look "differant" and thats a biggy for me. I really really dont like any mx5 at all and the chim from the from was too mx5 ey to me.
Is the trophy worth going for and the extra $$$ of a tf 160?...OR...........

Thanks for that.
I am just thinking to myself sort off. I am missing a convertable thats all and sort of thought I could persuade the "boss" to let me spend 2/3k on a rag top of some sort......and I just put convertables into an eb*y search by distance and the Ivybridge Trophy came up.
Googled MGF's etc and found an excellant website.

That was very helpful.
Quite a few MG fans feel the TF's suspension is better and wont be as possible problematic than the F's. BUT the rarity of the Trophy will keep its prices higher than an equivelant F or TF. BUT a TF 160 has the same power engine sooooooo......I'm still umming and aahhing whether to buy or not. Maybe an MR2?? Or............

It's not "Trophy Blue" is it?
Could he be getting a TF135 in Trophy Blue, mixed up with a TF135 Trophy Blue?

Now I am confused, methought anything with the word "Trophy" was at least the VVC 160??

No - The only true 'Trophy 160' was the 2001 MGF Trophy 160, it came in 4 colours, Trophy Blue, Trophy yellow, Trophy Red (Solar Red) and Anthricite. The interior was also colour coded and had special seat material in cloth and leather with 'Trophy 160' embossed on the seat.
The MGTF had the exact same engine as the Trophy 160. I know this because I bought an MGF Trophy 160 from new and an MGTF 160 from new. I always wished I hadn't traded the MGF for the TF, and the Trophy 160 was more fun.
Thanks Chris........I think, so what is this car?The MGTF had the exact same engine as the Trophy 160. I know this because I bought an MGF Trophy 160 from new and an MGTF 160 from new. I always wished I hadn't traded the MGF for the TF, and the Trophy 160 was more fun.
I am looking/thinking about a relativly cheap small sports car and I want the most powerfull one I can get. Due to its "rarity" factor, I have read that the Trophy is the one to get, after that any 160?? I prefer the looks of the TF's front end to the whale mouth look of the MGF. To me the "slotted" grill looks better.

Well, if it's a TF 135, it is the bog-standard TF, only the TF160's had the 160bhp VVC engine, the 135 has the NA K-Series.
Thanks Chris, but thats not a real help. Its advertised as a trophy blue with a 135 ps engine. My ? is, what engine does the trophy blue have. Are they/can they be 116/135/160 OR are ALL trophys 160?
OR is the trophy blue a completely diff car than the trophy?

I think that perhaps the advertiser thinks its a Trophy as its painted trophy vlue but the car being a 135 has to be the "cool blue"...????????

So many differant models with various engine outputs, grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Please correct me if i am wrong. The MGF had various engines but the biggest power output was the 135ps VVC yes/no?
Then the Trophy came along and power went up to 160ps.
The MG TF came along with 1.6 and 1.8 engines with 115/135/ and 160PS....yes...
I much prefer the look of the TF over the F but like the Trophy look BUT am now starting to realise that I will probably have to pay another 25% to get the Trophy over a F/TF.
Trophy cars in East Anglia, have a nice looking Wedgewood for sale, but whats that engine?
After owning a Chim , I think I really do want a 160 ps car... SO, if I cant get a Trophy for the right price, whats the next best 160ps option.

30 mins from Plymouth.
Joined the MGF/TF subclub online club. Put a note in the Devon/Cornwall page and have had zero response and theres no cars for sale there.
Have shortcuts to ALL the usual suspects re car selling websites and auction houses. Closest to me is Saltashes Mannheim which mainly sells 5-10 yr old small/medium sized saloons etc. The nearest BCA is Taunton, hr n a bit trash up the A30/M5. (About the only time I ever drive on a motorway!)
The tasty looking wedgewood that Trophycars are selling is the bog standard 1.8i, bugger.
