Jaguar S-type Auto problems

Hi all,
My Boss has a jaguar S-type 3.0l petrol with a 6 speed Auto 'box. It has started to slip and jolt quite badly. He has taken it to a jag place nearby and apparently it isn't the well documented software problem.
Is it likely to be a new 'box?
Can someone recommended a good (cheap) place to get it fixed in the Surrey area, or even parts of hants or w. sussex, he is based in Godalming.
