On my first service the report warned that the front tyres were low on tread. I was told that the "insides were worn". Having just done 10 000 miles I thought that it was a tad soon to be buying new fronts. Anyway, I needed to book the car in for a warranty job- drivers seat squab had flattened and was not supportive enough and annoying- and by this time (two weeks later) I had a look at my tyres and the insides are extremely worn to the point of getting close to the cords!! I asked them to check the geometry as this seemed excessive. I was then told that Jaguar will only cover the geometry for one year(!).

I explained that as the condition was noted at the service, while less than a year old, then it should have been investigated then as a duty of care as the wear was excessive. I am now waiting to hear if they will check it under warranty or not.

I feel the begining of a long "they all do that sir" arguement but what worries me is the instant "it's not covered mate" style attitude rather than the "dear dear sir, as you bought a brand new car from us, we will ensure it is sorted to your satisfaction."

May be the first and last new car I will ever buy! Is it a common complaint?

Falkens it will be then.

Have had an e-mail back from dealer say that they will "absorb the cost" of the geometry check. Be interesting to see when there is no misalignment why the tyre wear was so much to the inside?

Thanks for the tyre advice.

In the end I couldn't get Falkens from the tyre place I use in time so I ended up getting -now I know I am experimenting but -I checked out the background and they are a fairly new manufacturer with a modern high tech facility (it says so on the website...) so I have tried "Evergreens" at £99 a corner.

Will see how they pan out. So far I can't tell any difference.

Simpo, I notice from some of our crossed posts that we appear to have a similar sense of humour!

My RD350LC was due a tyre change due to age and cracking and my friend who was sorting it for me saw the "original tyre" and fell about laughing as that make was termed "The Ditchfinder General"

There is a bit of tyre snobbery about but I will take the chance and see how they perform. I run Goodyear Eagles on the Bentley which are 1/2 the price of the recommended Avons and are better.

It's the Chemist in me - Need to experiment ;-)
