XF 2.2D - Any Good
Discussion
I went to my local Jaguar dealer today with the purpose of finding out how much a used XF would cost me. When the sums were done, I can get a new 2.2d (200) for the same money as a 2 year old 3.0d, plus I get 3 yrs free servicing, 3 yrs manufacturer's warranty and no MOT to go for.
I am very tempted to say the least but part of me thinks I should have the V6.
Has anyone here got a 2.2d? Are they a good car or should I buy the 3-litre?
Cheers.

Have you done the sums on a new 3.0? It's "only" £3k more but you will get a better residual value and the dealer gets an additional 2% margin to play with, so it might not work out too much more per month.... Happy to some numbers for you if you want?
Ashley, thnaks for the reply - I think the 3k dealer deposit contrib and 4.9% APR was only for the 2.2 but correct me if I'm wrong.cslwannabe said:
Have a look at XF Forum - friendly bunch and you'll get some good advice there. Personally I'll never have another Jaguar but thats a different story....
I've only ever owned one Jag and that was an S-Type. Not having one of those again but prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.....V12 Migaloo said:
I'm being offered a 2.2 Luxury, they want about 6k down and 350 a month.... then after 3 years hand in and walk away or take another... The XJ is going in for a 60K service next week and I will have one all week.. not sure I could part with my XJ though.... Ash does this dound about right on the figures, haven't gone in to details just a quick 3 minute chat with GS in TD?? I think their are a lot of 2.2's hanging around at the mo, would rather have the sport though...
I was offered a 2.2D luxury for (rough ball park figures of) £5k down and £320 a month. I'm still waiting for summat more firm. After 18 months, time for a thread resurrection!
After some deliberation, I didn't buy an XF but went for an MB E Class Coupe 350 - very rapid and competent but a bit dull and despite having 'sports' seats with adjustable lumbar supports, I found it a bit uncomfortable on my daily 2 x 25 mile commute. So I revisited Jaguar and have decided to take the plunge on a 2.2d (190) Premiumm Luxury. A bit down on power on the MB but the spec of it should make it a very pleasant & comfortable place to spend 90 minutes a day (B&W 1200W Audio, DAB, heated / cooled seats, heated steering wheel, heated front windscreen etc etc) .
Hopefully picking it up on Monday.

Nice looking Jag. And let's face it, all Mercs are either dull or ugly, or even both
Enjoy the Jag, but if you can change to a 3.0, it'll be a load more fun.
I did look at 3.0s but I think the pre-facelift models don't look so good. Perhaps in 12-18 months a facelift 3.0D portfolio will be down to £20kEnjoy the Jag, but if you can change to a 3.0, it'll be a load more fun.

You could probably get a facelift 240 in prem lux for a good price
Well, I've had the car for a week and for the few times I've driven it, I've been very impressed with the smoothness and power from the 2.2d lump - I've test-driven a 3.0 (non 's') and traded in an E350CDI and don't feel short changed by the smaller engine at all. The only (minor) gripe is that the auto box doesn't drop a gear when slowing down from 70-60 but then I can flick the paddle...
After 4 weks of ownership, an update. a 160 mile round trip (90% motorway) I managed to get the OBC to reach 48 in one direction and 50 in the other. Good.
Doing a brim-to-brim after 210 miles of which 160 was a motorway journey at 70 most of the way I got 39mpg. Rubbish.
It seems that the complaints in the reviews about this (along with the gearbox being unable to change down when required) are well founded.
Frankly, I am extremely disappointed with this car. As soon as I can, I am getting shot of it and get a fast car for my 39 mpg.
If anyone is considering buying an XF, buy anything other than the 2.2d.
