When I picked up my F Type a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the front end had what I would describe as a mottled paint finish, light and dark like a difference in application. This showed up more in the showroom and to varying degrees out in the open.

After a few days, I noticed it more, rang Jaguar Cust services who assured me they would take it up withe dealer and get back to me.

I forewarned the local sales consultant as he had been great and I didn't want him to think I had gone behind his back.

Needless to say, neither the dealer nor I received a call. Not good.

I took the car back and the paint guy, who, whilst agreeing there was a problem, said better to leave as is, because if the front end was re sprayed it wouldn't be to the same standard as the factory. Various excuses like the difference is because it's painted on plastic were dismissed by me as the rear end is fine as was the same silver colour on other models.

I did mention that had I damaged the front end, needing a re spray, was he saying that it would be a poor finish? No reply.

Anyway, long story short, the sales guy and DP took one look and within hours had raised merry hell and got some action.

My cars gone back, I was offered a choice of courtesy car. Another F Type, an XKR, whatever.

Not having ever driven one, I asked if an XJ might be possible.

No problem, and I now have a monster Portfolio model, a Directors car, 500 miles, on the drive for a few days.

If ever a dealership goes the extra mile for a customer, it's Lancaster / Jardine Sidcup. Absolutely stress free, fantastic service.

I will let you know how the front end re spray turns out.

Lady Topaz - Did you get any resolve with your 'nose job' ?
Hi, the re spray was done and under certain lights it still appears slightly mottled ( not orange peel ).

I don't, however think anyone would spot it unless pre-warned to look for it

I was offered another go at it, but felt it was satisfactory enough to live with.

Now after £7,000 fantastic miles I don't even think about it.
