Has anyone fitted the Guy Broad box to their E type and if so how is it ?

First gear looks a bit low and the box appears to be rigidly mounted at the rear which doesn't seem right to me.

Aside from anything else they're the only company that have a box available.

Anyone fitted a Supra box ?

It's a series 1 4.2.

From what I've gathered so far the Supra box needs a fair bit of fettling to the car - alteration to the transmission tunnel cover and the rear "chassis" and the gear lever position is not exactly the same.

The Guy Broad box is easier to fit but has a very low first gear.

As far as I can gather these are the only boxes currently available ex stock.

Which bit isn't your understanding ?

It was the box supplier that told me the gear lever was 3/4 inch further forward and that the tunnel cover needed modification.

A company that's previously fitted the box told me that due to the increased length over the original some fettling under the car is required as well as to the tunnel.

If you know someone that's fitted one it would be a great help as the box itself is great and it's also the cheapest available.

Thanks for that E600,I'll give him another call.

He was a bit vague about the work required under the car which was the thing that put me off a little.

I'm keen to avoid too much metalwork as the car is finished and on the road.

The five-speed market has been a bit of a minefield over the years. Several "specialists" produced their own mods to adapt the T5 gearbox and these weren't always successful.

I bought two gearboxes from a company in the USA a few years ago. They're really excellent, fit straight in and have good ratios (the Supra box first gear is a bit low IMHO) Unfortunately the USA manufacturer now refuses point blank to supply to the UK due to disputes with his UK agent who copied (badly) his design.

E type Fabs also make a box that drops straight in but it's a bit expensive and they can be difficult to contact.

Elite transmissions have a good reputation and use all new parts in their box. They were my fist choice but don't have anything available until February at the earliest.

I made up a calculator that allows comparison of gear ratios/diff ratios/wheel-tyre size/revs and speed. It's very useful, particularly when changing components on the car.
