Not a happy bunny today..!! So after nearly 2 years of fault free motoring I washed the car this weekend and to my utter horror discovered the following areas of body corrosion. I have called my local Jaguar dealer this morning and am running it down there later today for an inspection. I dont think I am being unreasonable in expecting these 'faults' be fully rectified under the anti-perforation warranty. I will update this thread when I know more. For info the vehicle is a 2010 with 56k miles purchased as a Jag approved used car in June 2013 (with 32k miles) and has a full Jag SH.

Ok chaps I've just been to have the car inspected at Jaguar. The guy photographed the areas of corrosion and seems quite confident the bootlid will be sorted under warranty. However, he was adament the wing corrosion will not be covered (I suspected as much) but also took a photograph and said he would talk with CS.... His view is that it looks like a stonechip has propagated. However, my view upon inspecting the NS as comparison is that yes, there is some road rash evident but surely the stonechip protection must be insufficient if that is the end result after 4.5 years and 56k miles..!! I don't inspect every inch of the car weekly but it is looked after and goes into Jaguar for servicing, brakes and tyres and they always send me a 100 and whatever point inspection report after every visit so am I being unreasonable that the wing should also be sorted..??

My advice to XF owners though is to check your wheelarches..!!!

Ouch
That's poor about the dealer trying to duck out on the wheel arches. How old is the car?
My 20 year old XJ hadn't gone like that before I had the backs of the wheel arches done. LadyB8's MB did but the wings were replaced without a query by MB (along with ... other panels)
That's not good and it's not good service.
The car was registered in May / June 2010.

To be fair to the guy at the dealer he was just stating the policy from Jaguar but did promise to escalate via CS for me and I said to him I would appreciate his assistance in resolving the issues as quite frankly I find them unacceptable on a modern vehicle never mind a more 'prestige' marque.

The car is usually cleaned every couple of weeks but admittely not by my fair hands certainly not in the bad weather. I did notice the 'white' area low down on the sill a few weeks ago when doing a walkaround, might have been a month ago I forget now but did take a closer look at the area and certainly didnt notice the corrosion on the wing.

A bit of research suggests another example albeit in a different area:

Looking at your very first pic, there appears to be a definite edge to the paint which looks suspiciously like filler. At such a young age, could this have had a repair in that area before? May have been stone rashed early on, or perhaps caught on a low wall/stone/ kerb and not prepped and treated properly before paint. Boot lid is definitely their problem though.
My last Berlingo van (2005 1/2) was in far better condition than that, even on Orkney roads and tracks but it had a healthy factory application of plasticised stone chip around those vulnerable areas. My 2000 Daimler Super V8 has only a few small marks, bu no corrosion issues.
Hope you get some satisfaction from Jaguar.
There is the possibility the car has had a repair before I purchased it so not sure where I would stand from a 'fit for purpose' perspective considering the car was purchased from Jag as an approved used vehicle.

Just for information I have checked back through my records and I'm not trying to absolve myself of any responsibility here afterall it is my car but the vehicle was subjected to a Jag healthcheck in Nov 2014 and again in Feb 2015 when I had the front discs / pads replaced. There is a section for BODYWORK COSMETIC REPAIRS which was given a green light certainly no reference to any issues with the front wing which hasn't corroded like that overnight I wouldn't imagine..!!

A brief update in case anyone is interested.

After what appears to be a pretty major communication breakdown between the dealer, Jag warranty people and the assigned bodyshop it appears the repair to the bootlid was authorised within a week of me raising the claim...!! So, it is now booked in for the first week in Sept for repair.

Regarding the front wing Jag have effectively washed their hands of it and I am going to sort it myself at a local bodyshop and also take the opportunity to replace the tarnished chrome window trims and do some general tidying up after 65k miles of use.

Love the car still but the bodywork 'issues' have really soured the ownership experience.

That's real shame that they won't sort the arch, but I still feel that it was as a result of a bad repair before you got the car. I hope the warranty body shop allows time to remove the trim near the boot lid issue, otherwise that will creep back out sometime soon, especially following next winter.
The wheel arch problem needs some 'sympathy' from someone used to corrosion removal and prevention, like a classic restorer. Many body shops just go over the rough bit with a DA sander, then fill and prime/paint. Definitely NOT what you want,. It needs any rust properly neutralising (and checking behind too) before refinishing and protecting.
Hope you don't mind if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but I've seen lots of poor blow overs and disappointed owners.

Ian
Hi Ian, no not at all thanks for the insight. I'm not sure whether the wing has been repaired previously I will ask the body shop owned and operated by a good friend of mine so I trust they know what they're doing..!! However it requires sorting either way so just want it done now.

It is galling though spending all that hard earned on an approved used vehicle from a 'prestige' marque and I'm having to pay to correct issues I shouldn't have to in my opinion. Anyway, other than these issues the car has been faultless and I still think it's a great all rounder so I'll just have to hang onto it for a while longer to get my money's worth.
