I've started this thread for future reference if anybody has this problem!

Lastnight I started the car and drove about 500m down the road before a message appeared saying "DSC Not available (or words to that effect) - Restricted Performance". I carried on, but there was no power available, capped between 30-40mph. I tried the old fashioned off and on technique, but no joy. Same message appears again this morning, however after I drop the OH at work, I tried the off/on method again and the message cleared - car drove fine.

Have the car booked in for a diagnostics check to see if there is an error. I have read many things online, ranging from duff turbos, EGR valve and battery problems.

Will keep this thread updated when I know more, as it might be useful in the future if another PHer has the same predicament!

ETA: Today is also the last day of the 3 month warranty from Stratstone! Cutting it fine!

UPDATE:

Albeit a very late update! I took the car to Roger Young in Saltash, they plugged it in to the diagnostics machine and took it for a test drive, and the conclusion was that the battery was the most likely culprit. A low voltage can result in spurious messages appearing, and that there was no cause for concern.

To be fair, the car has been fine ever since! Touch wood it will continue to be trouble free wafting for me.

I have had the same problem now for about 3 months on my 2008 xf with the dsc not working restricted performance warning coming on I ve had the brake sensor changed, something to do with the vacuum unit changed & oil & fuel filters changed so far cost me £5oo same thing is still happening. with this battery fault was the battery changed for a new one or just fully charged up ?
Hi, apologies for the late response.

I had a new battery fitted and this cured the problem. The only electrical glitch I would have after the change was the service light flashing up even though it would have only been a 1000 or so miles after the service.

I no longer have the car, but the electrical niggles certainly did tarnish ownership--going into limp mode randomly on the dual carriageway wasn't confidence inspiring!
