Hi all,

(Been a lurker for a while but never really posted - be nice)

Advice needed on a 1997 XK8 belonging to my brother (he is busy at work but I recently finished uni so volunteered to help). It's done 80k miles, has rust all over including sills, arches, subframe etc. It's also just developed an electrical fault which causes lights to flicker and 'gearbox fault/battery not charging' on the dash. As such I am loathe to drive it in case it dies. As there are plenty of early X100s in good condition I doubt it is worth repairing if the electrical fault requires anything serious (and the rust) - had a call-out mechanic look at it who thought it was a battery cable (recently replaced to no avail).

Question is how to get rid of it - spares & repairs, take to Webuyanycar or an indy to see if they will buy it? Don't know the best approach for getting shot of it so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Car is currently residing in Battersea so any recommendations of a good local Jag indy dealer or scrapyard would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

Hadn't considered that actually, thanks. I'll have a look at doing that!

Thanks for the above advice guys. I've spoken to Penge Jaguars, they are going to take a look at it next week. We've had it serviced over the last few years at a local indy at home in East Yorkshire including its recent MOT - having worked on it regularly they reckon it is as bad as we think due to extensive rust on the underbody unfortunately. Still - will see if Penge Jags can sort electrical problem/offer value for scrap.

Evening all, apologies for the silence, been busy sorting the car out. Thanks for the replies and advice, much appreciated. Happily the electrical fault was just the alternator and it is now working smoothly with everything reset after a new one was installed at Penge Jags yesterday (great service, hat tip to P700DEE for the recommendation).

Drove it back to parents’ home in East Yorkshire, car didn’t miss a beat (200 mile journey).

As I’ve managed to get it back and I’m not sure I’d be up to taking it apart and scrapping it by myself, the plan is to sell it as a whole car - a project for someone with time and inclination.

In response to Jabronirob45, I don’t want to fall foul of forum rules so all I will say is I’ll be advertising it on PH in the next few days, with a full description of all its problems! It’ll be staying in East Yorkshire for the foreseeable I’m afraid.

I’ll shout when the ad is live - for now I will attach some photos of the old girl back on home turf after a quick wash this evening.
