I'd really appreciate any help and advice regarding the failure of the adaptive cruise control on my 2001 XKR!

Despite the age of the car, the adaptive cruise has always worked well. Recently, a warning light appeared on the dash to announce the failure of the system.

When the car was taken to the main dealer in Ipswich, their computer was unable to diagnose the problem with certainty, but they felt it was probably located in one of two boxes of electronics which operate the cruise. Replacing both (for over £2,000) was the suggested solution, although it wasn't clear if this plan would actually work.

Rather frustratingly, it wasn't possible to cancel the flashing warning message on the dash.

Does anyone have experience of problems with Jaguar adaptive cruise control on vehicles of this age? If so, any pointers as to how to fix the system? I realise that the remedy suggested by the main dealer might be the only way forward on this...

Many thanks!

Many thanks for the advice.

I haven't tried to make the alarm sound, so that's an obvious next step. Let's hope it's not working so that I then get a bit closer to locating the fault.

Electronic wizardry is all well and good until it fails! The fact that the main dealer was baffled didn't encourage me.

A second opinion from a good independent might be a next step before I throw lots of money at the problem.

It's a good place to start. One PHer has sent me some helpful JLR electronics information which also provides some helpful pointers, so at least I have something to work one which might either find the fault or at least narrow down the possibilities.

A hectic week at work, so little time to get into the garage in the evening!

However: the alarm works and the car is showing no other error codes (eg blown bulbs/other system failures). Of note is the fact that the voltage across the battery terminals is a bit low (it's an old battery and the car isn't used much) so I'll put my CTEK charger onto it and see if this changes anything.

I haven't had chance to check the fuse box containing the ACC system fuse yet, so this is another job to do at the weekend.

Let's hope it's not a wiring loom problem.

Sadly, no joy after trying the car with a freshly-charged battery.

I'll have to look in detail at the fuses, but I'm beginning to suspect that I'll need a second opinion from a good independent, as the complexity of this system has me out of my depth!
