Hi there folks. I test drove a 61 plate ex-demo Polo GTi with 4000 miles today. I'm thinking of swapping my Ed30 for this to reduce tax and fuel costs but also to get a newer car that has warranty and lower maintenance costs due to age.

However, is the 1.4 TSi engine still a nightmare for oil consumption?

Has all the earlier issues not been resolved now by VAG?

Should I now be able to trust a 61 plate, newer car?

Dont want to let my Ed30 go then regret it!

Found out there's been a recall of pre Aug 11 cars as after that the engine had some sort of revision.
Where did you hear bout the new engine in May?

Well i fancied a change as i've had the Ed30 for 2 years 5 months and am getting itchy feet but i'm also looking to reduce costs too whilst keeping some sort of performance and toys ala Ed30.
The Polo GTi fitted the bill nicely, it is a cracking car in looks, performance and running costs. However, with the current engine issues I've resigned myself to giving the Polo a miss.
I declined the car with the dealer this morning and he accepted it without question - he actually said he didn't blame me and knew where I was coming from!

ours has done 6ltrs in 6000 miles, its going in this weekend for a consumption test

its shocking and disgusting ...
Dave - what's shocking and disgusting is that VW are even bothering with a consumption test! They know damn well there's mega-issues with these engines. They should just recall EVERY car and just put the new revised engine in them.

It would cost them st loads but they are VAG not some poxy manufacturer!

Well I was all ready to buy the Polo gti I test drove but then after web research decided against it. It's a great car but vw need to sort this issue quick-sharp!
I'd also been looking at the Ibiza Cupra and A1 (185bhp) but assume there are problems here too?

Don't let it put you off!
Sorry Tony, but why would I take the risk of owning one of these problematic cars with all these issues and pay money on top of my Ed30 for the privilage?

I know I 'may' be one of the lucky few that doesn't have an issue but alas you'd be hard pressed to find a person who wants to inherit motoring problems just so I can visit my VW dealer every other month and look forward to an engine rebuild.

If the car had proven to be a cracker (which it would've been without this issue) then I'd have a case for changing, but sadly I'll give it a miss.

To the current owners on here, I really do hope VW do the decent thing and give you all a new engine when the revised one comes out!
