Mk 5 golf GTI cambelt timesscale

Please could someone confirm the timescale in years and mileage that these should be changed in accordance with manurfacturers guidelines.

I'm looking at a 08 plate with 40k miles. The dealer (not VW) is saying the handbook says not due until 120k miles!! This sounds optamistic and expensive! In my head i have 4 years or 60k miles but not sure.

Also did all get re-called for coil packs and how would i know if the cam followers were worn?

great, thank you - i'm guessing £400 for belt and pump at a specialist. Could be a useful bargaining tool.

hmm, I will call a VW dealer and ask them outright. Seems ludicrous not to change it until 120k.
