Hi Guys!

I've been without a car for the past 6 months, as I've just not needed one, but now the time for a new (to me anyway) car!
I'm in the market for a MK5 Golf GTI. Do you reckon it is possible to find a nicely looked after one for my Budget?

I'm thinking of approximately 70-80k mileage, and ideally would like Sat-Nav & Leathers ( I just think it makes the interior look better). I also think the 5 door looks better so don't really want a 3 door.

Manual or DSG is another consideration of mines, preferring a manual as my mum who will also drive the car is more comfortable with one, but shes open to the idea of an automatic(DSG) if it is generally thought to be a better car.

Your opinions and or knowledge of cars that match my specification demands will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,

Faz

Hey!

Thanks for the quick replies. Admittedly not what I wanted to hear. I'm not in a massive rush (I've held out for 6 months, so a little longer wont hurt!) so I am hopeful of finding a standard one within budget. I am willing to make compromises with regards to the spec, but mileage and number of doors are something I do not have much flexibility on.

Thanks again

Thanks for that Dr G. You never think that unless somebody writes it down! I suppose I can always open my search out to include a higher mileage car - provided the service history is up to scratch and backed up by reciepts.

A4Cabrio - I appreciate you posting the details up about that car. It did look good but unfortunately it is sold frown

Just a quick update guys. Collected the car yesterday! Wow! What a car. I know know why they say the Golf GTi is an almost perfect all rounder. Once again a massive thanks to Andrew who couldn't have described how amazing the condition of the car was through words. Totally genuine car, and a great guy to deal with! beer

Was well worth the trip up north!

Pics to follow!

As promised...

These are pictures taken by the seller, but I assure you, they do not do it justice! I Cant wait to get the camera out at the weekend and take a few snaps of my own! Hopefully the weather will brighten up a bit more too! biggrin

Cheers,
Faz

edited to add - The wheels are immaculate and look a million times better in the flesh. It also comes with the 17" Monza wheels as winter wheels as does the Original Badge, which I have on at present.

Magic, get some pics up for us.

If I come out of the company car scheme a MKV GTI is the first (and probably only!) thing I'll be looking at.
Thats good to know! I read many reviews of them, and they really are held in high regard! Really persuaded me after reading a few! Heres hoping you find one equally as good as mines! smile

As I mentioned previously the wheels do not look too nice in pictures. In reality they really do look amazing. Plus they are an official VW item (On the German Edition 30 as standard), so OEM too. I may be tempted to change them for a set of BBS Pescara (Edition30) if I can find a decent set for sale.

The headlights are pretty adequate for my needs. Although are not even remotely comparable to the xenons available. I live in a well lit area, and rarely (if ever) travel down unlit lanes etc.

Thanks again,
Faz

So I've had my GTI for a couple of months. I've made some subtle changes to it. I've promised myself not to get too carried away with it, and have largely stuck to this smile

I've changed all the interior lights to LED ones, I've changed the Detroit Wheels for some Edition 30 Pescara's (They definitely need a refurb), Ive upgraded the front end with some Genuine R32 Xenons.

Anyway, Il let the pictures do the talking! Hope you like it! biggrin

Heres the pictures showing off my new wheels! smile

And Another angle

And another...

Heres the (Genuine R32) Xenons being installed

And heres the Xenons finally installed

Hope you like it! biggrin

I always thought that the BBS CH/Pescaras worked better on a standard GTI without all the ED30 trinkets. I'd be tempted to get a set for my Leon if that didn't mean switching over to R18 tyres. The one thing that really freshens them up (aside from the Xenons up front which you've already retrofitted) is spraying the rear bumper body colour.

Cheers Manopener beer

I'm thinking of replacing the rear valance (lower part of the rear bumper) with an edition 30 version as I find it just looks so much better then the black plastic it currently has. The Pescaras are a PITA to keep clean lol, I always end up seeing spots I've missed after cleaning them.

Nice do you mind saying how much you paid for the xenons and were they an easy fit? Looks smart.
Hi Si-xsi! Id have loved a Tornado Red GTI like the one in your profile pic! Awesome colour!

I brought the xenons of a member over on the mk5 golf gti forum (www.mk5golfgti.co.uk).

I'll pm you with regards to the cost, but fitting was one of the more easier jobs. 4 screws in each arch, and approx 6 or so screws underneath holding the bumper plus 2 holding the grill. The bumper just slides off and the lights are held in by 3 Torx screws each. I do have a little bit of wiring left to install as I never had the correct adapter at the time. This is to enable bi-xenon functionality, which I hope to have wired up when I get some free time over a weekend sometime soon.

The install can get much more complicated & costly if you decide to add on the auto levelling and headlight washer systems.

Like it and like it even more so now on the new rims - have very very fond memories of my black 3dr Mk.V. As I've said many a time before on here, I still think it's the best car I've owned pound for pound, though my new Mk.7 R may change that perception as time goes on.
Cheers mate! I was really torn between the Mk.V and the EP3 Type R. I think I would have enjoyed revving the nuts off the EP3 all for a couple of days. The all round ability of a Mk.V is too great compared to ALOT of its rivals. Let us know how the M7.7 is when you've had it a while!

Thanks, I really wanted midnight blue but couldn't find one at the time of looking, there's not many red ones near me.

Cheers for the info Faizan, really helpful. Mind you, i'm not sure I have the balls to take the front bumper off for fear of not getting it back on again properly! Hmmm I will look into it though because I think it really makes a difference. New wheels look much better too btw.
Hmm, midnight blue. Im not sure but if it's anything like shadow blue then its a goodun!

No worries for the info, but it's really easy! you wouldn't believe how little is actually holding the front bumper on! lol

Have a look at his for the removal of the bumper - http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/front-bumper-and...

And this for removing / replacing the headlights - http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/jetta-golf-headl...

BTW, I've noticed you've been on a track. Did you do much to yours before then or did you just arrive and drive?

Wheels suit it well. I wasn't a massive fan of the black monzas but your new set looks good

I'd love to do the xenon upgrade on mine but doesn't look cheap!
Thanks mate! You always helped me with my queries, I'm surprised to hear you think that the xenon upgrade is super expensive. I paid less for the xenon's then most pay for their RNS510's wink

Here's one for all of you loving the xenon's!

They certainly do freshen up the front end no end! Well worth upgrade for this even without factoring in the AMAZING light output!

I can't help but love the "shine" in this pic! biggrin

She's looking great Faizan - some nice tasteful mods there!

Did you ever get the seat bolster tidied up?
Cheers Andrew smile I'm just super glad you had looked after it as well as you had, which has allowed me to spend some monies on making her my own smile

I did arrange for the seat bolster to be repaired, but I wasn't assured of the cloth matching very well. Its no where near as bad some I have seen though, so thats not a major concern.

Hows the MK7 treating you?
