Golf Mk7 GTI & GTD Real World Fuel Economy

I'm potentially looking to buy a Mk7 Golf GTI or GTD as a daily commuter. It'll be roughly 350 miles per week on a mix of open A Roads, dual carriageway and a short bit of town driving.

I did test drove both. GTD managed a 48mpg over 30 miles (official figure is 62mpg!). GTI test drive was too short to really get an accurate idea.

Does anyone have any real world experience of MPG from both the GTD and GTI?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm lucky enough to have a V6 Exige for fun so the Golf will be for the daily commute. My head says GTD but my petrol head heart is saying GTi,
