Hi chaps, seriously considering a v10 rs6 avant. Was thinking about upgrading my daily and another sports car but on reflection I'm not sure how much use I will get out of a 2 seater so considering something that will allow me some fun and fulfil family/dog duties as well.

Couple of questions about them for those in the know.

1. I've read on the whole they are fairly reliable, anything specific to check/watch out for? Assume service history, tyres and brakes are the things to consider.
2. If buying outside main dealer, can the Audi warranty be purchased separately? Any conditions for this such as mileage?
3. Mpg, I know it's a given but I'll be doing a 300 mile round trip once a week to Birmingham, is mid 20's doable on the motorway? My other mileage is negligible really so no worries there.
4. Any other ownership views, experiences?

Many thanks in advance
Graham

Thanks chaps, will take a wander over to RS246 and have a read. Finding myself having very naughty thoughts about this one...rare colour.

Edited to add, just did a quick online quotation using this reg number for an Audi 'comprehensive' warranty. Comes in a £2124 with a £0 excess or £1714 with a £100 excess, both unlimited miles. Gulp.

My insurance is from memory about £350 through Sainsburys and I'm 39 with 12+yrs NCB.

They are pretty damn reliable on the whole. The main issue a few higher mileage cars have developed is an oil leak from an o-ring on the rear of the engine, 50p part but at least a £2k engine out job. This is still very rare though but can only be checked by removing the plastic under engine cover.

The other big one is front wheel bearings but this is common for all C6 Audi's.

My car has 70k miles and I've had neither issue and touch wood it's been very reliable indeed.

They are a great car, heavy and feels a little big in the corners but a damn quick car, especially with an MRC stage 2 remap!
Thanks for feedback, I'm going to hang on for a while and save a few more pennies so I can hopefully pick up something around the 40k mark mileage wise as I'll probably put on 12k a year myself.

The figures I provided above were for an Audi warranty rather than insurance but it's good to know insurance is relatively cheap! Major cost will therefore be fuel and depreciation.

Been reading a lot on the RS246 forum, it's quite reassuring to see the lack of faults or moaning type threads and a lot on mod's. Seems the owners are an enthusiastic bunch and hold their RS6's in high esteem. Good to know.
