Mk5 Golf GTI Loss of Power
Discussion
Went for a drive to Dartmoor earlier, and while accelerating onto the A38 on the way home I noticed the car felt very flat.
I floored it a few times and it felt like there was a lack of turbo boost, and the exhaust seemed louder than normal. Temps and fluids are fine and I couldn't see any smoke. There is also no misfire.
So could it just be a boost leak?

As above, if it hasn't had the DV replaced this is most likely the cause
Part is only about £40 for the latest Rev G http://www.stokeaudi-parts.co.uk/products/Audi-Tur... and is about half an hours labour to fit, or just about do-able as a DIY with the right tools.

Cheers, someone else has just suggested that to me too!
Really could do with out it a I have just had the cambelt, outer CV joints and front brakes done!
Tell me about it, mine needed all that lot doing within a year!Really could do with out it a I have just had the cambelt, outer CV joints and front brakes done!
I'm gradually working my way through every common fault and notable service part there is.
But the car will still run just fine with those faults. Apart from the inlet manifold motor and A/C pump, none of that list is expensive or difficult to do and the cambelt with water pump is £349 at the main dealers, so they're hardly bank busting cars to run.
Have you had the fuel line tapping problem yet? Or the leaking brake servo causing a hissing noise behind the dash? Or the rusty sills? Rust wings? Rusty tailgate? Broken boot light? Broken door lock module and alarm electronics?
No? Well you've not had the half of it yet!

And again!
Dropped it to 5th to pass a car and it lost boost! The power comes back after restarting the engine, but goes less than a mile after. It seemed to briefly have st loads of power when it was last working earlier!
Last time it was an actuator switch, so maybe something to do with that again?
