Went for a drive to Dartmoor earlier, and while accelerating onto the A38 on the way home I noticed the car felt very flat.

I floored it a few times and it felt like there was a lack of turbo boost, and the exhaust seemed louder than normal. Temps and fluids are fine and I couldn't see any smoke. There is also no misfire.

So could it just be a boost leak?

Took the scenic route to the garage this morning an the power started to come back a bit towards the end. Hopefully they can sort it as I'm off to Rally Gb on Thursday!!

Well that's cheered me up laughlaugh

Should get the car back tomorrow with a new valve. In the mean time I had better sort out the car tax renewal this evening weeping

New valve didn't fix it, garage concerned about how harsh the engine sounds. Funking gutted, looks like I'm off to Rally Gb in a stty mondeo with a dodgy 3rd gear..

Nah idle is fine. They think it could be a blocked exhaust or maybe a snapped actuator rod.

The car definitely sounded louder, but it was from the front of the car, rather than out of the back box. Was hard to have a properly look in the dark and rain with the stupid engine cover.

Turns out the actuator rod and bracket had snapped! So the garage have welded it up and on the shirt drive home all felt well again!

Well its happened again frown

Pulled out of a junction, short shifted into second and floored it, changed into 3rd and it lost boost. Drove around 10 miles to where I was going, and when I restarted 15 minutes later it had boost for a couple miles before losing it again.

fking cars eh?

And again!

Dropped it to 5th to pass a car and it lost boost! The power comes back after restarting the engine, but goes less than a mile after. It seemed to briefly have st loads of power when it was last working earlier!

Last time it was an actuator switch, so maybe something to do with that again?

Well the garage I use is incredibly busy, so the car won't be going in until Thursday afternoon. Luckily it's more than drivable till then.

Drove with the window down earlier and i'm sure I could hear a very faint whistle then "tssshhh" as I let off the throttle when the turbo was working. Makes me wonder if the diverter valve they put on back in November is playing up?

Shall see though smile

Just spoke to the garage and all previously fitted parts are fine, all signs are pointing towards a new turbo.

Finally confirmed as a broken actuator, after they tried a repair which failed. Turbo won't be there till Monday, so i'm stuck in a Mk1 Ford Ka till then..
