The 'best' car on my company car list is a Golf GTD. What are the general opinions on this? I'm getting one for 4 days next weekend and quite looking forward to it. I currently drive a 320D.

It is a little smaller than I would ideally like but I couldn't bear 4 years in any of the blander alternatives (2.0 Octavia Elegance, 1.6 Passat SE, 1.6 Focus Titanium, A3 1.6 SE, 118D SE).

Nor do I want to take the cash alternative as I'd struggle to get anything better as the amount is pretty stingy, the car has to fit a number of criteria and I average 25000 miles per annum.

Bizarrely, the Octavia vRS isn't on the list as it's 'monthly lease cost', as calculated by the lease company, is too much, even though it is the cheaper car. Only saying that as it would be the first choice given the size and spec. and no doubt something all readers of this thread will suggest as a suitable alternative!

Thanks in advance!

Only 44mpg?

I hope that is you ragging it everywhere?

What about on a steady motorway cruise at 70mph?

You dont't have to go diesel to get 45-50mpg in a golf, see the thread on the 1.4ACT engine. It won't quite match the mid range grunt but it makes up for this being far smoother and quieter.
No but I have to go diesel as there are no petrols on my co. car list.

Leasing initially looks attractive but on any of the lease websites, as soon as you put 25k PA in the model, the attractive headline figures suddenly increase quite a bit!

Not ruled out a vRS on a PCP or lease yet. I still have 4 months until my BMW goes back so will have to get off my bottom and get around the dealers.

Fair enough. Personally, I'd rather eat my own face than have a manual diesel golf.
But a DSG would make everything bright and shiney.

It is a co. car and I'm limited to manual. I can't even have metallic paint so it's a good job the car looks best in Tornado Red!

In two minds about the GTD. As per my username, I am drawn to a vRS for the extra space. It would need to be a PCP or personal lease though.

I'm test driving an Octavia tomorrow and I've got a GTD all next weekend.

I would be £800 per year better off with a leased vRS than a co. GTD. Not a huge amount and easily wiped out with one small bump!

What would you all do? Or get a company Greenline and save the money to buy a 997 C2 biggrin

Took the family to look at one today. Might be too small. Looks like I may be in an Octavia Estate. The proviso is though that my wife gets a GT86 biggrin

I can have an Elegance on the co. car scheme but I'm trying to sort out my man maths to lease a vRS. Have found a 3+47 deal, 330 per month for 20k per year with some options.

Well I've got one for the weekend.

It is lovely! I'm taking it out for a good thrappelling tomorrow but it is a lovely place to sit, especially at night.

So is a company GTD better than a personal leased vRS which would leave me £800 a year in change too....

In my case, the personal Octavia (financed via a cash for car payment from work) would be cheaper than the Golf. However, it is nice not having to worry about a car.
