looking at getting myself a nearly new car biggrin lucky me biggrin and after having a go in a new manual boxed diesel was quite impressed. Sadly theres no petrol version for me to try in a 100 mile radius so was wondering if the learned folk on here with vRS`s have tried both and why you chose what you did. The salesman is steering me to diesel as he says the residual values are less for petrol. Real world consumption I imagine the petrol to be 30mpg and the diesel to be 45, extra £100 for VED as well.
I`ve tried to find performance figure for both not just top speed and 0-60 as tbh they don`t mean much to me, it`s the overtaking punch I`m interested in but can`t find any comparisons on the net.

Thanks for taking the time to reveal your thoughts and experiences biggrin

Good idea about trying a golf GTI, same engine and gearbox as well.

Well I took another drive in a diesel today with 4k miles on then took a drive in a golf gti with a performance pack. The petrol golf put a big smile on my face where the diesels just didn't. I want the best of both worlds, the gti engine and a big boot :-D :-D handy skoda does such a thing :-D

I`ve had a V70 D5 for the past 7 years so I know what you mean biggrin DPF and dual mass flywheels are starting to rear their ugly heads in a lot of modern diesels as well. Seems petrol power is starting to be the way forward biggrin

I did consider a demo/ used one buts it`s working out cheaper for me to buy new with the finance deals getting put out, I`ve never had a brand new car before lol biggrin I can spec it out with what I want as well and dig into some discount with 2 dealers wanting my cash biggrin depends on how hard faced I can be wink

I did a little review of the difference between a mk2 and mk3 diesel vRS. A few months on and I'm finding the mk3 is loosening up nicely. Sure, it is no rocket off the line but in 3rd or 4th it goes great. Just be careful of enjoying this too much when you have filled the boot with precious breakables......

how much bhp`s extra? Heard that the actual bhp of the cars is a little bit more than quoted in the brochure, nearer 240 but unless a few people get their cars dyno`d it could be a myth

Just looked at the brochures and the vRS petrol estate manual weighs 1372 kgs and the 3dr GTI manual with performance pack is 1382 so in fact the golf weighs more than the Octavia biggrin

I found it cheaper getting a brand new vRS on pcp than buying an ex demo vRS with 4500miles on. Depnding on how new you`re wanting it could be worth looking at a brand new one biggrin

I did order the petrol biggrin it`s been a week since my order has been put in, only another 11 or so lol!
Estate, manual, petrol, race blue, canton sound system, colour dot matrix computer, panoramic sunroof, heated seats, screen and washer jets biggrin looking at getting a black grille fitted when it lands as well biggrin
Looking into it the engines seem extremely tuneable, 320bhp for a stage 1 :O I might just keep an eye on these and get it mapped once the warranty is out biggrin

I hope it comes in time for my week in Germany, I need to give it a lap round the `Ring then apply the sticker lol!

I was planning to change my car in a couple of years but now going to look for a nice pre reg 63/14 plate Octy VRS petrol estate , seem to be a few around but must be 20 diesel to every petrol .
Ask about a deal on a new one, it worked out far cheaper for me to go new than a pre reg and like you say theres not many about. My nearest petrol vRS was 120 miles away!
Make sure its got cruise control and the flat bottom steering wheel biggrin

I got mine for £24k new with £3300 of bling, 3 years servicing and warranty with a pcp of 2.9%
I didn`t have that kind of cash but can drop £7k on the deposit and £250 a month

I could probably do the same , I have the Fabia to trade and could afford 250 per month. What's the gfv and mileage allowance if you don't mind me asking ? Presuming 3 years as well
Last payment is £9800ish and thats on 12k miles per year. 30% deposit, the maximum, as well. Yep, 3 years
