Can anyone confirm; is there a special way to balance S line 18" alloy wheels from a 2008 A6?

I have slight vibration through the cabin when up to motorway speed. Getting them balanced before has improved things or perhaps at best, changed the resonance.

I have read that when balancing, the centring cone should be fixed to the inside face of the wheel hub as this is the only machined centre. The outside centre is purely formed by casting. Is this true? Not keen on rocking up to my local tyre fitters, telling him how to do his job armed with fiction.

Cheers

Thanks for the response.

I've solved it. Flipped the rears over to the front last night and went for a drive. Steering wheel had a noticable wobble right from the off so it was immedaitely clear I had a buckled wheel not curable by getting the wheels balanced.

Took a guess at which side it was on, swapped it with the spare (proper spec alloy wheel) and was away without the wobble.

Did forget to remove the locking wheelnut key before driving off but found it again 30 mintues later, in heavy rain I've not seen in a long time. Still a result!

Cheers
