Well I've taken the plunge and I'll be getting a new A1 S Line in the next week or so leased (at a very good rate) from the sister company of who I work for. I'll be getting rid of my Mini in the next few weeks.

It's the S Line spec so hopefully I'll be happy with it.

I thought if I'm going to save money on my car then I'd go for the most economical, but is 80mpg realistic? If it is, the car will pay for itself in money saved in fuel!

Anybody else have one?

What is the 5 speed gearbox like on the motorway? I'm sure it's fine, I'm just used to 6 cogs!

I'm getting 20 - 25 mpg out of my Mini. I do between 15k to 20k miles. I'll be saving a lot.

Thanks Valo, I was a bit worried with the feedback!

I drove a 1.6 TDI A3 today and thought it was reasonably nippy on the move. The A1 is sub 10 seconds 0-60 but it's not about that. It's about trouble free motoring. The economy is a bonus. I understand depreciation but I'm getting a very good deal on it so that's fine.

Hopefully have it next week so I'll chuck a pic up once it's here!

I got that economy from my 5 litre M5. Either you are driving in traffic all the time or you have a very heavy right foot.
Both of these plus the 1.6 supercharged engine with the mods I have is bloody juicy!

Well a colleague of mine had his delivered today and I'm quite impressed with it to be honest. Not keen on the black body and Silver roof but luckily mine should be Grey all over (fingers crossed)!

I'm really looking forward to it now and I'm kind of thinking 6 months is too short a period so I'll try to get something on a 12 month term next.

Thank you for the info above... Apparently it's a revised engine and has a few changes to aid efficiency like electric steering. I believe the A3 I've driven had the electronic steering and it wasn't too bad (you can definitely feel it get heavier the faster you go but it had a horrible tendency to hold straight ahead of you know what I mean).

Anyway, who cares, I've only got it for 6 months and then I can get an A3 / A4 or possibly a C Class depending on £££'s.

Thank you for that!

Given the reviews I've read basically saying the 1.6 TDI is now the pick of the range I should be ok.

It comes on Friday which I'm very much looking forward to given that I'm currently driving a Peugeot Partner van!

Well the car arrived yesterday, wasn't that excited until I saw it coming off the car transporter!

I'm absolutely amazed by it. It pulls very well considering it's the 1.6, the build quality and level of equipment is outrageous.

I've done just over 200 miles to 3/8's of a tank averaging just under 70mpg according to the trip which is unbelievable given that I've been flooring it occasionally.

It cruises very well and very comfortably at 70-80 and will still pull well in 5th at those speeds.

Had a nice drive down to Beachy Head...

I parked this behind my Mini yesterday and thought "blimey, the Mini is worth a 10th of what this costs" but having done some miles it easy to see why! If someone wants to moan about how expensive these little cars have become blah blah blah... All I'll say is take one out for a weekend! Comparing equipment to my dads well equipped E60 525d was hilarious! The A1 won top trumps there!
