Anyone else looking at or ordered the Mk2 Q7 yet? Reviews so far have been very positive and the performance and (alleged) economy look great. The styling is more beefed-up estate and not quite as "imposing" as the original version.

For various reasons, we have decided to replace the trusty X5 and have looked at all of the options in the estate / crossover / SUV sector and, it came down to getting another X5, or the Q7 which came out as the best when we looked at the lease prices, due for delivery in September. It's also nice to have a change as the F15 isn't greatly different to our E70.

The Q7 standard spec is pretty high - especially in S Line trim - and we have just added a couple of options which hiked the price a bit more than expected but still a very competitive quote from Egon compared to the others - most of whom are still offering the Mk1!!! Beware of this if you are in the market for one.

The only version available at launch in August is the 3.0 TDi, 270hp version in SE or S Line trim with other versions from 220hp to the ETron due next year. Luckily, the 270 S Line is the version we would have picked anyway as we don't do a high enough mileage to justify the expected £12000 premium for the ETron (although I have no idea what the lease prices will be on that when it comes out).

So, roll on September!
😎

Hmm, guess that means NO!

Oh well, changing the subject slightly, I have received notice that the car is status 10, build week 28 which, I believe, means order received / build due mid-July ish but does anyone have any more definite info?

Is there an Audi order tracker I can access like the one VW operates?

Please, someone.........ANYONE!!!

Well, I have tried to get into the order tracker but it needs the postcode as well as the order number so I am finding out which postcode was put on the order (done through the leasing company) then we will see...

Hi Phil - yeah, that's definitely the fun bit, working out your spec. There are tons of options and so many ways of upping the price of the car, whether you're buying or leasing. Don't know which of these you're doing but the Q7 worked out the best overall deal by far and the ETron version only makes sense if you do really big miles. (I read a comparison on the web somewhere). In an Aussie review, they also said the Q7 has the best cabin space in its segment and was a nice drive (Car Advice on youtube ?).

FWIW, we have gone for the Daytona Grey pearl paint which is the same price as the other metallics and co-ordinates with the other exterior trim colours nicely (plus Mrs BB likes the sparkle); then we added the reversing camera and rear, side airbags and non-smoking pack. I wanted to add a detachable tow bar for a bike rack we use but the only available option appears to be the "trailer pack" which is great if you want to pull a caravan or something but a bit OTT for us, and a £1300 option!

After a bit of ferretting about, it seems the Audi order tracker is not working at present and they don't know when it will be back up. :/
I'll keep trying but the Audi dealership where the order was placed was very helpful and confirmed all was well.

Hi Philbo - yes, it is a bit of a risk, ordering without seeing and some of the pics of the nose of the car make it look a bit out of proportion but I'll just hope it looks better in the metal. The reviews and videos have all been complimentary and, as we know, the media isn't shy about giving new Audis a good kicking if they're not up to muster, so I'll take my chances. To be completely honest, it is going to be my wife's car principally so if she's happy with it... Incidentally, I tried to steer her towards the VW Touareg R which has some cracking lease deals at the moment but she didn't like the look of it and, in fairness, we do regularly use the 3rd row seating in the X5 which wasn't even an option in the VW.

Totally agree with you about the great spec and about the cost of the options but to clarify - the £1300 was for the trailer pack which included several bits of kit (including an electrically deploying and stowing towbar) and is probably worth the money if you regularly tow a trailer / caravan or whatever. When I first started looking, I'm sure a detachable towbar was available on its own for about £850 (!) but that seems to have disappeared from the options list since. I'll check back regularly to see if it has returned.

Fair comment on the headlights, Phil, especially as you already have them on your other car . I looked at the matrix headlights but the S-Line comes with "all weather LED headlights" which are probably really cool and effective (?) and it was another £950 for the matrix ones so left that box unchecked on our order smile

I really like the virtual dashboard thing - a friend has this on his Tesla - but, again, quite expensive as an option and the standard dashboard / instrument binnacle is not unattractive IMO.

There is quite a lot of extra kit fitted to our X5 but a lot of it is rarely used tbh.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread instead of starting another.

Just had word that our Q7 which was scheduled for September delivery has arrived and will be ready for delivery next week! Mrs BB is very happy - obviously - and so am I as the X5 sold (very quickly) a couple of weeks ago and she has pinched the keys to my Golf since.

Anyway, this should be one of the first Mk2 Q7s around and I'm hoping it'll at least fill the quite large gap left by the X5 and hope the fuel economy is an improvement too!

I'll post up some first impressions and pics as soon as poss.

Thanks Philbo.

Took delivery this morning and first impressions are very favourable indeed:

Exterior looks much more like a big estate car than the previous model - I actually like both styles, for the type of car they are - and the proportions are quite good. It was only when our 9 year old stood next to the car that we got a better idea of the size. The wheels / tyres are massive.

Interior has plenty of room in the first two rows and the 3rd row is pretty good but means the other two have to shift forward a little to even things out sufficiently. The alcantara and leather seats seem very comfortable although a longer journey will be better to judge by.

Equipment is very impressive and we didn't add anything to the standard spec except for the reversing camera which is pretty much essential for parking in town etc and it gives a very clear, well-defined image.

To drive, it is VERY smooth, quiet and, it seems, soaks up the bumps extremely well and far, far better than the X5 (E70) ever did but still corners without any wallow, at modest speeds anyway.

A few clever touches include option to duplicate the sat nav display between the speedo and tacho if required; electric folding / raising 3rd row seats and numerous means of connection for various external media, all as standard.

Will post more details and / or some pics if anyone asks or is interested.

Hi scotty and td'

Been a bit busy and only just logged on.

Very happy with it so far - taking a bit of time to learn all the gadgets and get used to the size of the car - not sure how the dimensions compare exactly but it certainly FEELS longer and wider than our old X5. The middle row is 3 full-sized seats and there seems more legroom in all 3 rows, too.

It is leagues ahead of the BMW in NVH / refinement / ride comfort - I always thought the X5 was a very harsh ride - the old MSport suspension and run-flat tyre combo giving you quite a going-over on anything less than perfect road surfaces.

Styling wise, the exterior is fine but nothing special. I suppose the bulk of the car is well disguised and it certainly isn't unattractive but, well, you wouldn't buy it for its looks IMO. Inside though, it is very nice: I love the seats, the "full width " style dashboard and the ergonomics seem very good although there is a lot to get used to.

A bit early to comment on performance and economy of course but appears to have effortless acceleration to 50mph and beyond . Happy to update on this or other aspects if asked..

I have taken a few pics on my iPad just now and will try to upload them - hopefully the right way up...

Sorry! Carp photos.

Another nice touch is the climate control buttons with display inside - have seen this done before but seems particularly nicely carried out here.

One minus point for the transmission tunnel intruding into foot space for centre, 2nd row occupant. other than thT, struggling for negatives at present...

Fair comments, Ranger6 and agree completely. This is definitely the long- distance, family wagon and I doubt it will be an "engaging" drive although time will tell. Lucky to have other cars which fill that role driving

No offence taken - my thoughts are that its not the type of car to buy if you're looking for a responsive, fun drive, more the sort to cover distances with family, and luggage or bikes and dog etc.

We are taking the younger kids on a longer drive in it tomorrow and Tuesday so looking forward to seeing how it copes with that - will post after.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. The colour was a bit of a lottery as the local Audi garage didn't have any samples or swatches for us to look at before we ordered - luckily, they had an A6 Avant in the showroom and Mrs BB said that she liked the colour which we knew from the Internet was going to be available on the Q7. Daytona Grey Pearl. (We did like the Sprint Blue but that was way too much extra).

Anyway, did a fair trip to Chessington and back over the past couple of days and even more impressed with the interior space, refinement, performance and economy:

The kids report far more room in the 2nd row than they had in the X5 and there's more space up front, too; there is barely any intrusion of noise or "fidget" in the ride on any of the road surfaces we have come across so far;.

As far as performance goes, it just effortlessly gathers pace at almost any speed: We were behind another vehicle on the motorway for a couple of miles and when he moved to the left, I gently accelerated to pass him and my wife said "do you realise what speed we're doing?" I had underestimated by about 20mph ! The (very nice) delivery driver, Peter, said he had made a similar mis-judgement on the way to us, and he delivers cars all the time. I think I may have to set an alert to avoid any points.

Economy - reset the trip computer for the journey and we averaged just under 40mpg on a mixture of motorway, A roads and a couple of traffic jams which I thought was excellent, again, much better than the X5.

One extra which we probably should have added is keyless access - not standard despite having keyless start. Having got used to having this on the X5 and the Golf, it seems act of a faff to have to extract the fob to unlock and lock the car when you have kids, bags etc. (I know, I know, first world problems etc etc 😊).

Haven't been in or driven the previous Q7 to compare but saw a couple in the car park and Mrs BB said how big they looked - especially in white, for some reason. Think this is down to the styling as the dimensions are only marginally different.

So, overall, we are very happy with it so far and would recommend to anyone that they consider one of these if looking for a car in this segment.

I will add further comments to this thread as they occur or happy to try to answer any queries.

Hi westy

Sounds good (very similar to ours) which also has rear camera, extra rear airbags and the non-smoker pack.

The standard suspension is not harsh at all - very supple but roll is very well controlled. Don't know how they manage to do this on a tall, heavy car but, in my opinion, it is just about spot-on. Hope you and your mate are both pleased with yours.

Yep! Other than the couple of minor gripes I mentioned already, we are really pleased with it and the 40mpg ability (although our normal usage will probably not achieve that as there's an element of local journeys, school runs etc.

The suspension on ours is the bog standard springs. I haven't driven one with air suspension or even the SE version to make any comparison but, as I said, it is very good as is, IMO. I suppose if you're thinking of speccing air suspension, have a go in both versions and see what you think. To be honest though, I would be surprised if there were enough improvement to make the extra cost worthwhile possibly unless you really cover wildly varying terrain regularly.

Looking forward to hearing other owners' comments when they have taken delivery.

In a recent comparison test (Auto Express ,I think) between the S Line 270 Q7, new Volve XC90 and Disco, the Audi came out on top, overall with the Volvo a close second - think this may be at least in part because the Volvo only has a 2 litre engine. Can't think this would be enough to give decent performance and economy would suffer in normal driving conditions.

Anyone else taken delivery yet?

Can't argue with your logic and it is a bit galling having to shell out more money for them - guess, like all manufacturers, they like to keep the list price "competitive" then get the price up when you spec the car on the order form.
