Partner likes these and we seem to have found a few that tick the boxes but knowing very little about them I'm wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction.

General consensus seems to be the 1.8T but having just got shot of a TFSI we'd much prefer a large capacity petrol instead. I've found a very nice 2.4 Sport Tiptronic and a manual 3.0 Quattro both similar mileages. The 2.4 seems a better specification but the Tip worries me slightly, and the petrol head in me knows the running costs and consumption difference will be marginal at best so the bigger capacity is a no-brainer. (Also a newer unit?)

How ruinous are the gearboxes in these? It has full service history.

Secondly, what are we looking at for running costs? Have become accustomed to 28-30 mpg and would be happy with that, but just concerned about servicing and parts availability.

Not expecting a handling masterpiece or a rocket ship, just a well screwed together silky smooth cruiser that has a few toys and doesn't mind the odd long distance jaunt. Are we looking in the right place for ~£3500?

Thank you.

Oh it states Sport Tiptronic with the steering wheel shift, thanks for that. I'm assuming this is the box with the mechatronic failures?

Just don't really want another turbo, if I'm honest. Much prefer a linear delivery. I realize they trump the V6 on economy, tunability, running costs and weight.

Right so the 3.0 Quattro manual is the one to look at? States full history but no mention of the timing belt.
