Anyone got a Golf GTE?
Discussion
As much as I love my Octavia VRS, the dreaded BIK is getting a little silly now. I'm seriously considering a Golf GTE in the basis that it will save me a shed load in tax. Im doing 20k private mileage and there is no car allowance option so CC is the only way forward. I haven't seen anything else that's low BIK which even vaguely interests me (although maybe there is something I have missed?) so I'm interested in any real world experience of the GTE?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

What do you need to know, I may know the answer (I may not).
You can also get hold of the manuals if you want on-line, if you go here:
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/manuals
And enter a reg number of a car from VW Used site i.e. NG15KBK, you have access to all the manuals relevant to that GTE including the NAV model.
Apologies, I should have replied sooner. I'm interested to know if all cars have Car-Net (which I believe is what is required to activate A/C or heating remotely), how long it takes for the batteries to recharge while driving using the ICE and also if there are any benefits/grants applicable to the business if it's being run as a company car? Oh and any must-haves in terms of spec? I'm not sure budget will stretch to a brand new one. What do you need to know, I may know the answer (I may not).

I have noticed Listers in Coventry have a couple in stock although Leicester is easy enough for me too.
I'm still trying to work out what cars have Apple Car Play? Budget won't stretch to a new one sadly, so I'm looking at 'nearly new'. I would very much like to have car-net and Apple car play but there seems to be so much conflicting information over what the actual spec is (and what actually works!)
Basically, I want to have a good Spotify interface, use google maps for navigation and be able to set the heating remotely in the morning. I'm still not sure if this is possible in a MY15 car which is what I might end up with. I'll have to run this for 4 years probably so want to make sure it's right!
Thanks to all for responses so far.

I honestly think you'll get more mpg out of GTD for your commute of that length.
The BIK is however much better on the GTE
You may well be riffs but as I only pay the BIK it seems like a no brainer on paper! Concerned that my employer may have their nose out out of joint if it's worse than my current dinosaur powered VRS (149g/km!!)The BIK is however much better on the GTE
Bumping this back up as it looks like it's back on. Anyone had a charging point installed at home? I'm trying to find out if the grants towards installation are still available and if I would qualify running it as a company car? Also, trying to find out about the membership fees etc for public charging points. Either my google-fu is terrible or the basic info is far too hard to find!!
Very informative post, thank you. Have you noticed any difference in your electricity bill at home?
I understand that there are compromises to a car like this, but I would be going from a 2012 Octavia VRS which averages less than 44mpg consistently and saving myself something like £330 a month in BIK tax. Can't see my employer taking on my cost to recharge at home, but I'm reckoning on a cost of £500ish a year in leccy assuming I charge it every day.
I plan to have something else for silly weekend fun, so this is purely an exercise in not paying a large slice of my income out on what basically is going to and from work!

What have you guys done about charging points? Standard 13A socket or dedicated EV point? My garage (where I wanted to plug in) is detached from the house and the cabling is not suitable for an EV charge point. This I guess now means that Ive got to use the 13a 3 pin lead and put a wet/dirty lead in the back of the car everyday
Just to bump this up now that its been here a couple of weeks. Its great fun and goes surprisingly well, even in E-mode.
On the long commute to work and back (no charging at work 'currently' but hopefully this will be resolved) Im getting about 50mpg average including a full charge, but running around on electric at the weekend bumps the average up.
Loads of kit and I'm absolutely loving the Blue LED mood lighting. Yes I am easily pleased.
