Thinking of buying a Golf R as my daily with a view to 'upgrade' it to a Stage 2 tune of approx 370- 400 using APR or Revo.

Question is as the OE clutch is pretty pants and won't handle these power levels (even stock clutches are known to fail) will DSG soak up heavy track usage as they can tend to overheat and cause selection problems whilst on track.....especially pre Gen VAG platforms ie ED30 Mk6R and S3.

Is there a decent reliable clutch upgrade or is the new DSG stronger?

I note the RS3 uses a 7 speed DSG....I assume it's stronger still?

Yes. They couldn't reliably put the 6 speed in an RS3.
I assume the 6 speed DSG is as 'strong' as the 7 speed version as fitted to the RS3?

The only danger / concern is a very expensive repair to the DSG box if it fails?

I know from APR's MK6R on DSG running theitr stage 3 kit @ 450-465 that the box ran into selection problems when hot on tack....I witnessed that mysel? Have they made any major improvements on the MK7?
