Golf R or GTI

Hi All

My wife is looking for a new car and the gold R and GTI 5 dr look likely. She only does about 6-8k per year and we are flexible on term and deposit. Does anyone have any recent experience of deals to be had along with supporting dealers before I start to trawl the net?

I've bought it for the wife but I'm way more excited then her.....2-3 months wait??
