Hi all,

I'm having issues with my car at present ('07 1.4 TSI). The car holds gears, generally from 3-4-5-6 and the revs often reach 2000rpm-3000rpm. It gets to a point where it's so bad that I have to change gears manually. I recently took it to a VW specialist who did a diagnostic and said there were no faults but did however, say that the chain needed replacing as the timing was off but quite some margin.

The strange thing is that I take the same route to work everyday and whilst driving on some roads, the gear changes are absolutely fine but when I drive on a flat surface, the gears start holding once again. Is this the DSG adapting or do I need to get the DSG reset?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I did get a diagnostic done and showed up with no errors.

I will definitely get a reset done within the next couple of days and hopefully it'll eliminate the issue!

I'm driving without much hard acceleration, if anything completely the opposite. The gears were previously changing well i.e 3rd to 4th when driving at around 30mph and if anything, change too early but I didn't mind that at all. For a few weeks now, it seems to hold onto 3rd gear at 40mph and holding onto 4th gear until around 50-60mph. I can tell it's not normal because I can feel/hear the engine over revving.

I did contact the VW specialist who replaced the chain, last month. They've said that they can't reset the DSG unless there are faults with the car but are willing to run another diagnostic.

Surely this isn't right? I mean, they stated that when they replaced the chain, they didn't do a reset which I thought they would do.

Hi all,

Car went into a VW specialist who drove it and said that the gear changes are fine. When I received the car back, gears were changing smoothly, as they should.

Within 2 weeks, it reverted back to not changing gears properly - driving at 60mph in 4th gear under light acceleration, sometimes I'm even stuck in 1st gear whilst travelling upto 10/15mph and I have to override manually. Then, the ESP and ABS light (amber) came on and all of a sudden, the gear changes were perfect (no over revving). That was until I turned the ignition on/off, the warning lights disappeared and once again, rough gear changes. *Note, the warning lights have not come on again*.

This makes me believe that there is an issue with one of the abs/speed sensors.
