Some (preferably) impartial views about the SEAT Leon Cupra Black ST (with DSG) would be appreciated please. I recently had a test drive in a Golf R and was impressed but the SEAT appears to be better value as a company lease (from what I've seen).

Given that I like the 4WD of the Golf, is the SEAT lacking in anyway because it's only available as FWD? I've heard rumours that a 300bhp 4WD version is imminent. Can anyone confirm?

I don't really need the load capacity of an estate, I just prefer the way they look.

Proof of the pudding is in the drive I know but non of my local dealers have any demo's. I'm waiting to hear from SEAT UK Corporate ref to an extended test drive.

Daft question but do they come with heated front seats/electric adjustment? SEAT's website and brochure does not make it clear. Edit: I found the answer. They are available as part of the 'winter pack' option.

Thanks in advance thumbup

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Heated seats are really nice. I've had them on my last 4 cars and would really miss them. I didn't realise the Cupra Black had a LSD. I bet that makes a huge difference being FWD.

It would surprise me if SEAT offered 4WD because it would be too close to the R. The SEAT sits nicely between the Octavia RS and the Golf R as it stands IMHO. I'd be very interested to know if the rumours are true though!

AddledDad - do you mind me asking where you got that deal from? I'm assuming that's ex VAT? My local SEAT dealer have quoted me 3 months down, 23 months @ £324 pm inc VAT. Metallic paint included but no other options. That's on 15,000 annual mileage and is non maintained. I thought this was a reasonably good deal. It seems to better the other lease specialists from what I've seen on-line.

SEAT UK have been great. Arranged through the dealer, they contacted me within 2 days and have arranged for me to have an ST with DSG on test for 6 days. Just need to arrange my own insurance. Arrives delivered to my house in about 10 days time. Should be fun.

You'll see in a few months.
Inside information? Tell me more.

If they do make a 4wd with 300bhp (or more), then that would be exciting. And with my local dealers quoting 3 month lead times on factory orders (which takes us right into the middle of Winter), it might be worth waiting for SEAT to reveal all.

If you're going hatchback, buy now, these aren't going to change. The 290's already make between 300-310 hp from the factory, so the numbers are just a marketing gimmick to keep the VAG hierarchy. If you're buying ST, I would hold off for 6 months (if you can) if you really want 4WD. There's also rumours that the 4WD estate will be rebranded to the 300.
Thanks Jonno02. I had a Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 years ago which was making more than the 180bhp (had it on a rolling road before a mild re-map to 215bhp) than VAG claimed so I wouldn't be surprised if the 290's are making 300bhp+

I prefer the look of the estate (personal preference) to the hatchback but 6 months plus a possible further wait for build and delivery might be too long. I'm not leasing my current vehicle and I'm quite happy with it (just fancy a change) so I'm not in a huge rush. It will be interesting to see how the FWD performs when I get the demo vehicle; 290bhp is a lot for the front wheels to handle. That could be the decision maker for me. Plus there appear to be some really good lease deals out there at the moment as previously mentioned.

Can you tell me who you arranged this through?
Arranged through my local dealer as a Corporate Demo (I'm a Director of my own company). You wouldn't have access to this type of Demo as an individual but if you are a 'business owner', any dealer should be able to arrange this. Just ask them thumbup
