Emissions Retune (Software update to A3 TDI)

I've got the Audi Letter encouraging me to have the 'emissions scandle' 
special retune applied to my 2011 A3 2.0 TDI. My Audi dealer also asked if I wanted it retuned when I got it serviced.
This is the software update, not the 'modification' done to some models.
They say it will not effect the performance of the engine.
I would like to hear how people are getting on with their cars following the software re-tune?
The thing is, the economy is really good on the car (70 mpg on occasions). I don't want to loose that or the smooth running of the car (or the performance).
