Hello,

Currently in process of getting my Mk2 back on the road, one of the rear calipers has seized up (Done this previously).

So my options are:

Get 2x Rears refurbed by Bigg Red for £79.99.

Or

Change to either Mk3 or Mk4 calipers...... am after advice on this though, is it straight replacement? Discs etc same? Any build threads?

cheers for replies guys, I'll probably go mk3 route then.

Are all models the same or gti better? If so, any idea what models have same caliper as gti as I have a mate that works at a scrapyard, gets a lot of mk3 in but not gti versions.

pic of golf (hopefully as first picture upload attempt!):

Found some bargain mk3 rear calipers for £32 on eBay so bought them, need a bit of tidying though.

Haha I thought it was quite a rare colour but seen a few already.
I find that with cars though, you feel you never see them, then when you actually have one you see them all the time! I guess it's because you're subconciously looking out for them haha. It is rare though compared to the standard black, red and white ones that you see all the time.

Personally I like the Bright Blue Metallic & Oak Green colours the most.

If you haven't already got some calipers I would recommend swapping to the mk3 seat ibiza/polo 6N2 rear stub axle setup.

The ibiza cupra had a mk4 golf style aluminium caliper with 38mm rear piston (some of the other ibizas and polos are 34mm) and you get a proper rear bearing setup as well . The mk2 bearings are a pain in the backside to change without a press and have a little side to side play present even when new with them being taper rollers.

Cheers Ross.
Already bought some Mk3 rear calipers.... £32 bargain off ebay! Haven't fitted yet though as been fixing my daily and my mums car lol.
