I'm thinking of getting a 53 plate Allroad, the 2.5 TDI version. It'll be a third car for carrying a dog and getting me down the lane in winter. The car I'm thinking of looks in good nick, is sensible mileage (125k) and has all the kit, including low ratio box.
Anyone got experience of these good or bad?
Thanks

I have one and it's been a superb car. Very versatile, with a large load carrying ability.
I've spent a lot on mine and have replaced the front airbag suspension as the car used to drop overnight.
They can be heavy on bushes etc - I replaced a lot of mine with Meyle HD stuff - worth the extra cost.
They can let rain water in from the scuttle panel so be sure to check for dampness in the passenger and rear passenger footwell.
Engine wise, try and get the later BAU engine codes as they had better valve gear/cams to get round the wear issues.
Make sure they have XL tyres on and pref. Matching tyres.
I had mine remapped for a bit of extra poke, well worth it and at the same time I had my EGR valve mapped out.
All in, they are an excellent car but do require a fair bit of maintenance..
I've had a couple of A8s. They are great cars and superb in the snow.
I read somewhere that you can replace the air suspension with normal set up. Anyone know who makes this, cost etc?
Worth checking the air suspension works properly, you can get compressor rebuild kits fron bagpipeandy on ebay.. just £25..
Sadly, mine is for sale after I have spent all the money on it [on flea bay] now as I have an A8 BUT and it's a big but I'm not sure whether I have made the right choice!!
Good luck, pretty sure you won't regret buying one
