Hi all; long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm trying to find some information on a 400 derivative; the '250'.

The 400 and 400 HC are well documented, with an alleged 240 and 275 bhp respectively. Both have their unique plenum badges. The HC has a list of internal engine modifications, again, all well documented.

But what about the '250' with it's own unique plenum badge?

What was this car? What was done to the engine for those extra 10 horses? Solely mapping, or breathing, or cam? Was it a factory option or a dealer modification? Does anyone have any sales literature for this option?

It carries nothing in a value premium I'm sure, but would it be fair to say this option is rare? Google only returns about three old car adverts where sellers have clocked on to this 400-250 badge. All are pre-cat cars. The 250bhp output is not covered on wiki for either the Griff or Chim, or any TVR book I own.

In the grand scale of things, I know it doesn't mean a great deal. TVR bhp figures were subject to interpretation anyway and when you put these 22 year old cars on a dyno, you never know what you are going to get. It's a question purely for my (our?) own intrigue.

I bow to your collective superior knowledge....!

According to a 1992 UK price list I have the gas flowed heads option (250bhp) was listed as a dealer fitted option, listing at £854.67 inc VAT.
Thats brilliant, thanks all. I can't believe its a dealer fitment!!!

Looks like I need to keep my eyes open on eBay for a similar 1992 price list.

Again, many thanks for clarifying the source.
