I have removed the old 'burr walnut' veneer from my dash and am wondering if it ever really was wood veneer. What's come off is about 1mm thick and has a thick lacquer coat on the face side. What surprises me is that the reverse is very smooth (where it was stuck to the metal base) but has absolutely no sign of any woodgrain. It appears to be almost like a thin sheet of perspex with a woodgrain printed on the back.

Anyone know if it really was wood?

Yes, I remember seeing a post from a Wedge owner who had a painted dash which he very skillfully replicated. Certainly got doubts about mine.

Steve, mine wasn't painted either...no wonder the veneer falls off.

Would be very interested to see more pics. and info as you progress.

Some interesting ideas here on alternative brackets.
