Mirror Motor Staying On...

Calling any electrical wizard..

As soon as I turn on the ignition, one of the drivers side mirror motors comes on and stays on...quite annoying and can be heard even over the sound of that beautiful V8!

My temporary solution has been to remove the 30 amp fuse which controls both mirrors. This has worked well but clearly a more permanent solution is required. Looking to order various parts to improve the car over the winter so could do with some advice please as to what bits I might need to resolve this problem.

Thoughts / suggestions welcomed..

Hi- Just replaced the 20 Amp fuse (not 30) and tried selecting the other mirror. The selector and motor controls are both unresponsive, and all I can hear is one of the motors grinding away.

Plan B - and question.... Can the switch be prised out without having to remove the whole door panel. Did this a few years ago to lubricate the window runners and it was a real pain!!

Just found a similar thread from a year ago which helps a lot...just need to know the answer to Plan B please.....

Hi- The relay may well be the problem and will check that out. As to where the relay is..that's another question.
My Griff is a 1999 and I think the relay was moved from earlier models from within the door ( where water can ingress into) to somewhere near the steering column on later models - may be wrong on this!!

Got an electrician friend booked in next week to investigate... Coming to the conclusion the door panel is coming off so read upon all the tips..

1) Rubber band on wrist and string attached to screwdriver !
2) Long sleeved shirt
3) Greased arm
4) Towel dropped into bottom of door to catch falling screws
5) Replace existing nuts with wing nuts..

Hi and hello..

just tried the above - the mirror moves freely by hand. Put the fuse in, ignition on:- motors make a noise but the mirror does not move at all..

Fuse out - 20 mile run into Derbyshire to restore the pain / pleasure imbalance!!

I have ordered a pack of 5 switches £4.74 inc delivery and will investigate further next week some time..

Could you advise what secures the aluminium control switch in position, i.e. can it be removed by being prised out or does it have to be released from underneath??

The switch is retained by two screws inside the door panel...

Interestingly the faulty micro switch is the same one in the thread posted by robsant.

Switch taken away by retired electrician for repair !
