A few months back I made an enquiry with one of the many online firms that create models for the CGI /3D industry/hobby world and whom I’ve used in the past.
I did not have the time to develop my 3D CAD skills so wanted a shortcut to help further the plan of having a digital 3D ‘manual’ for the Griff.
As it happens – only the earlier Griff was available and I wasn’t prepared to pay up front for a model I had not seen.
However – as it turns out, was with my nephew (who is into graphics imaging etc etc) yesterday and we got onto the subject of the Griff). Long story – short – we thought we’d check out the latest car list again – and… yes they must have chosen to make it themselves and uploaded it to their product list.
There is of course the 'Need for Speed' Griff, but if I'm not mistaken, think this is the first publicly available one(?).
See Hum3d, google images and you can see the original Griff model images and Youtube vid– loaded around 19th Jan 2017, with only 26 views on the YouTube to date and I think a fifth of those were my hits!) – so it’s pretty much hot off the press.
Took a punt on it, and though the model is not perfect or accurate in every detail, it’s a good start to form the shell to go with the chassis model – gallery here Gallery here - (website still very much under development so lots of gaps).
I’ll be modifying the model to get it a little more accurate– some parts will need deleting/altering (eg floor plan/interior profiles/exhaust etc). Some parts strangely seem to have been made up / body dimensions seem a little off also - so will need checking against fit over the chassis. etc (width 160 wider, length appx 80 longer than ‘standard’ documented dims – can’t be overly critical as it’s a great bit of work and of course not sure what access the person modelling the car would have had).
Modifications may need to wait till the spring when its warmer however - and I can do some proper dim checks/comparisons.
There is still of course a fair bit to do – but though you may be interested in seeing the work to date and of course know about the availability of the new Hum3D model.
