I want to insure a Mini 25 for me to drive. There appears to be a problem because the car is registered in my son's name. Does anyone know of an insurance company who will insure just me (no other drivers) for this car?

Background: My son (19yo) has bought another car so that the Mini can come "off the road" for some TLC. He can only afford to insure the other car. The Mini is due to visit a bodyshop in the very near future and it will be simpler for me to drive it there and back before the car is SORN'd (and insured appropriately)

No company I tried, including Adrian Flux, would accept the car being insured with me as the main driver (30+ years driving, clean license) with my son as a second driver while my son continued to be the owner AND registered keeper of the car.

Our current insurers (a multi-car policy) would insure me as the driver but for OVER £200!!

We have resorted to transferring ownership to me and insuring just me (with Adrian Flux!!) for £73!!!

What I call a right royal PITA!!

They couldn't (or wouldn't) do it for me. That is all.

I appreciate that you feel that Flux can do this. I am not disputing this. However, having asked to do something, the "script-reading-sales-kiddie" at the other end of the phone either did not have the wherewithal or didn't have the authority to make any suggestion of the solution you have described.

As the customer, I should not have to think of what possible solutions there could be to the problem. If, as you say, Flux can do this, then all their phone operatives should be in a position to be offer it. I was simple told "No, it can't be done - no insurer offers this".

I rest my case (for a second time)
