Fuel Gauge

With the fuel gauge trying to tell me the tank is empty and I don't think it is I started to trace the wiring.
Instrument cluster out, trying to decide which wire is the live, and how to test the voltage stabiliser. Any clues?
Its a two instrument Clubman BTW

The stabiliser on the Clubbie 2 dial dash plugs into the back of the instrument cluster and the cluster has a multiplug with about 8 wires.
At the minute I'm not sure if its the feed to the stabiliser, the stabiliser itself or feed from that to the tank.

I assume it also stabilises the voltage to the temp guage but as I haven't run the car in a while I cannot tell if that is off too.

Now have a "dip stick", the tank is half full
