With a newborn and all the kit that comes with him, not to mention a move out of London within the next months, it looks like my C63 will be heading out to pastures new :-(

Mrs 911 rather fancies the idea of a truck and I cannot deny the ease of putting mini-911 into his baby seat and the ability to chuck all the kit into the cavernous boots of a truck. Whilst the move out of London doesn’t require 4WD, I guess it wouldn’t go amiss. For me, a front wheel drive soft roader is not really an option, just simply from getting the concept processed through my brain!

The most obvious reference point for me is the Range Rover Sport, I think Mrs 911 and I both think that we are too young and not quite ready for a big tank like a Vogue. In doing a little research it looks as if the Supercharged cars have taken a tumble residuals wise but a large part of my brain says that a TDV6 or TDV8 would make more sense. Am used to the high running costs and 20mpg of the C63 but there becomes a point in time when a little sense prevails, and I do have the use of my big blue shouty thing for those n/a V8 weekend moments. driving

I think the things I would love to carry over from my Merc are probably things like Heated seats, sunroof, Phone Prep, I assume that a RR Sport would have all of these as standard? Are there any options that are worth looking out for?

Budget is probably £18k as I am keen to take a wedge out of the AMG. Looking to avoid Kahn, Revere and all the other gangster trucks out there. Lugano Teal looks a good colour.

Probably completely the wrong place to ask for an unbiased view but other options are:

Audi Q5 – Buy a higher mile, big engined, newer model. Styling is more modern but I still think RRS looks better. Interior and goodies are far more modern. Less depreciation likely.
BMW X5 – As above, not to mention the driving dynamics
Freelander – More for your money and Mrs 911 likes them but concerned that they are not big enough and not so keen on the looks.
Mercedes ML – I guess to continue the Merc experience. Lovely interiors, nice AMG styling.

Alas a Cayenne Turbo is not an option from SWMBO!!

So I can't advise on on anything other than a AM V8s or a RRS and given your question I will chose the later. Have had mine now for 7 years and it's the V6. It's a brilliant car, just done 80k without a quibble, a few minor glitches with electrics but easily sorted. Love the car but wanted to refresh it slightly recently so had an ECU remap done, should have done it years ago, it's like a new car. Whatever you decide, good luck but if you find a good RRS it will serve you well for years, oh and I now get 27 mpg out of it :-)

Regards

Jamie
Thanks everyone thus far. So this remap? Any more details, sounds interesting!

...But they do go wrong a lot...
I think this has got to be the number one reason not have a Rangie at the minute and go for something like an X5. A friend of mine had a 'Friday afternoon' Vogue and it was permnanently at the dealer having this and that replaced. Mrs911's car so reliability is key.

Personally I'd see if money from the C63 sale would stretch to an early new RRSport - maybe the Supercharged? 0-60 in 5 secs isn't exactly sluggish, and still averages 20-22mpg......
I'd love to, alas the budget is a strict £20k. Taking equity out of the AMG to undertake work on a new house purhase.
