Guys
Bought an Evoque yesterday and on the way home the coolant fill message came on. Checked it this morning and level is only slightly below fill but on taking the cap off the bottom thermostat bit is stuck in the tank. How do I get it out? I just haven't got time to go back to the dealer and leave it there unless its a major problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Ian

Thanks for the link thumbup

The car is three years old/27000 miles. The coolant level is below minimum by about 25mm so it may be the float is ok but I will bear the info posted in mind once I have topped up if I still get the indicator saying coolant is low.

Bearing in mind I have only had the car 12 hours I don't know anything about them. The problem I have is the expansion cap "appears" to be in two parts with the thermostat part pressed into the cap. I have taken the cap off and it has left the thermostat part stuck in the top of the tank so I cant put any water in.

Does anyone know if the stat bit is threaded i.e. unscrews or does it simply pull out? Obviously if its a major problem I will take the car back but that involves a lot of fannying around that I could do with out if its a simply fix.

Thanks

Thanks Paintman,

Its very difficult to explain but the cap is in two parts, the bit that screws on to the tank and the thermostat part that attaches to the cap and fits in the neck of the tank to allow expansion and release. The two bits appear to attach to each other as a push fit and would normally not be taken apart.

I have taken the cap bit off but the thermostat bit is wedged in the neck of the tank and I cant see how it comes out. I think I will drop by LR later today and buy a new cap and then should be able to work out how I am getting the thermostat bit out of the neck of the expansion tank.
These things are sent to try us, lol.
Cheers

Job done thanks. New cap £2.99 OEM and all became clear. Just two o'rings seezed on the tank neck needed prizing out. Knackered it getting it out but at £2.99 whose bothered😀
