Is RRS TDV6 slow etc
Discussion
I have an Evoque 2.2 remapped, which I find just about OK from a performance POV, very slow off the mark. OK when moving but not great. OK with just me driving but feels it loaded up. Looking for something larger as 2nd baby coming
I can afford to buy a 2010 RRS 3.0TDV6 or 2010 RR 3.6 TDV8. I am not overly keen on spunking loads of extra money on fuel, but is the 3.0 TD thirsty & slower than the evoque? The V8 looks better performance wise but I don't want a car that only does 20MPG it's just too painful

Annual milage is only 7k but I already have a 997 for fun, this is for the wife so no need for anything fun like a V8 supercharged, don't want to spend a fortune on diesel when it's only for humdrum use mainly
I can only afford the V8 if we buy the FFRR as it seems to have dropped more than the Sport for the V8, and wife wants the sport as it's easier to park in Waitrose
Am concerned that the 3.0 TDV8 will be slow & still thirsty though

You mean the 3.6 TDV8?
It is a heavy car - but to give you an idea - very similar acceleration to the latest A4 2.0 TDi, if not slightly quicker. Ample mid range punch, and the TDV8 responds well to a remap which will should increase power to north of 320 and torque by a decent amount.
Drive one.

If you're only doing 7k miles pa then buy the supercharged RRS. You're on the crossover between initial vehicle cost and fuel costs balancing out and the overall difference will be negligible. No need for stinky diesel at that mileage.
How does that work. The supercharged one is no cheaper to buy and at 15mpg vs 25 would cost me an extra £1000 in fuel a year, how can that be a crosover betweenn the 2 fuel types? 300bhp/ton said:
I don't have an Evoque, but I can't believe it can be that bad. There are certainly plenty of slower cars about.... A lot slower. And they manage to navigate the UK road network without issue.
Let's face it, the SDV6 has a better 0-60mph time than a Golf GTI, when hot hatches were first invented. So do you think a Golf GTI would also be too sluggish for busy roads and junctions?
I guess my opinion on it is more relevant than yours then given that you haven't driven one and I've had one for a year. Not sure how making a comparison between it and a car from 40 years ago is relevant either really but thanks anyway.

I have heard people say this. Still not sure it's really as big an issue as made out. I've driven TDV6 Disco3's and RRS's with the 2.7 and the 6 speed box. And while there is a trait here in a bit of lag/sluggishness, it was fairly easy to not notice at all, or drive around it and make it a non issue.
It's a well documented issue affecting the car and it's dangerous and annoying. If you haven't driven the car then you don't know what you're talking about A.J.M said:
The 8 speed does have that lag issue.
A friend had a MY12 D4 8 speed for 4 years, it was always there, despite some trips back to the dealership for upgrades.
He would use the flappy paddles to change to 1st then set off.
The 6 speed doesn't have that issue. If you want it off the line quickly. Stick it in sand mode on the terrain response and floor it!
Soon as the Mrs is back from Monkey Music & Waitrose I'm off to try that out!A friend had a MY12 D4 8 speed for 4 years, it was always there, despite some trips back to the dealership for upgrades.

Really ? I didn't the Evoque 2.2 was a TDV6.
The TDV6 3.0 is being discussed in the context of whether it avoids the terrible pulling away delay / lag of the Evoque which everyone who has actually driven one agrees is pretty awful. I'm trying to ascertain from people who have driven the 3.0, whether it still has this issue as it looks on paper to have similar power and gearbox which seem the obvious culprits. I don't want that in my next car as it is dangerous.
Good comment above on the 4.4 V8, it appears from reading some other threads that this is actually more efficient than the 3.0TDV6, and remapped wd be a good step up from the Evoque too, always nice to upgrade. Maybe this is the answer, they also look good value what with a 2012 being purchasable for under £30k or a 2010 for £26k-£27k. I think I'd favor as new as possible.
Just been to look at a few and all the baby stuff goes in the FFRR much more easily than the Sport, plus the inside is nicer too so that's decided. Think I will sidestep the issue of power by going for the 4.4 TDV8. Some cool features to look for such as deployable side steps, adaptive cruise, electrically adjustable + heated steering wheel!
