I have had Koren 4x4 for the past 8 years. Been good for the money but also due to this the drive feels poor and quality of the interiour.
And the only other 4x4 I really like is the Discovery. I've had a look and driver of a mates Discovery. Lovely to drive, smooth and loads of room. And a lot of nice toys.

In my Budget would be looking at a 13-14 plate. around 30k including trade in is about my budget.

been to my local dealer and had a look around. Got the brochure etc... and been given all the good things about them but as I would be making a step up in quality the price reflects this. So was wondering what goes wrong with them and what costs may be involved.

I don't do lots of miles. my Current car has 28k and had it since 3k 5 years ago. So only doing 5-7k a year approx.

So how reliable are they if looked after

Thought I would ask on here before trawling the net for reviews.

I have just purchased my first Disco MY15 HSE and looked for about 2 months and finally the one came up, a bit more then originally wanted to pay but it was what I would have ordered new. It was from a main dealer and as with cars under 5 years old you get two year warranty, which for these cars is essential. HSE is a great spec and come resale time with full service history they seem to shift, people want toys and comfort. They are a big heavy car so tyres brakes etc tend to wear quicker and of course mpg is not great, around town expect 26 mpg on a run you may achieve 34 ish

I love mine the SDV6 engine and gearbox is an absolute joy. As with all complex cars there are a lot of things to go wrong but MY12 onwards they seem sorted but there are still things that go wrong, that's why the warranty is a must.

If you want a car that will do everything from turning up at a posh black tie dinner to putting your work or fishing gear in and even taking all the family on holiday, the Disco as no equal.

Ps Disco3 forum is all you need on the net

They are generally good, but some do still have the odd issue.

They all seem to hammer suspension components. If you have a LR warranty, its unlikely they will be covered, due to wear and tear. The main ones are upper and lower arms (front and rear).

The TDV6 and SDV6 are the same engine, just rebadged. Early TDV6 had no DPF, then DPF added and latest have Adblue. Gearbox change was around 2012 from 6 to 8 speed and a small 10bhp power increase.

I think some seem to have an issue with the inlet manifolds splitting. I think nearly all ages affected. Seems a number seem to snap the crank shaft, no one really seems to know why. Recent recall for MY12 cars with crankshaft sensor issue.

As above, they are big heavy cars, so need lots of maintaining, but cant think of a better car for everything it does. Disco4.com has everything you could want to know. Good luck
Strange u mention that about the manifold. My brother in law just replaced one T his garage in a 10 plate and said it was a real bh to sort.at least he can sort it if I bought one and had the same issue . Touch wood

Seems apart from being unlucky the Disco is not a bad car from the posts on here. I've registered on the Disco4 forum and had a look around.

PLus having a Brother in law who's worked on disco's and able to do pretty much all that may be required is a plus

I'm not fussed on the MPG as i don't add the miles.
And seems a huge difference on price between a main dealer in Bristol and one in Cornwall. Ok it's 150 miles away but for a very similar spec I can save 5k. Might take that to Bristol and see what they do in the new year. That or just travel down
