I was browsing through the classifieds on here the other day and was really suprised at the price of 2002 Range Rovers...

Now to me, back 5/6 years ago, these cars where 70k plus (Vogues)?...and now you can pick them up for circa. 12-16k.

Are these to be avoided?...Any problems with them?...Servicing costs excessive?...Is this due to the 400 quid yearly tax or?

I'm sure it's far to good to be true as you are getting a lot of car for your money!

If, however it is a good time to buy one, are there any things that I should be aware of? For example:
Servicing?...Intervals? Major Service?
Brakes? When do they get renewed?
Air Suspension?...any issues?
Petrol or Diesel?
Vogue or HSE?
Are these engines ok for 100k plus miles?
Any other issues that I should be aware of?

Thanks

Thanks for your replies so far. This forum seems rather quiet compared to the others I use on here, or is it cos I'm the new one?

Anyway...

Servicing costs per year is on average say £500-£600? tax £440? Insurance will be whatever...and then petrol/diesel. I think I will go for a petrol as I won't be using it everyday, probably about 7k miles a year tops.

I understand that these cars aren't going to be as cheap as a Fiesta to run, but as I'm only going to be using it for "special occasions", I think the costs will be kept to a minimum.

Basically I need a family car to do private comfortable miles in, so I don't put stupid unecessary miles onto my Porsche with two squashed people in the back. I do have a Defender 90 as my work horse, but travelling on the motorway with a car full isn't exactly the most comfortable of experiences!

I'm hoping a Range Rover will fill this gap?...I have been looking at Audi's etc, but they just aren't "wow" enough. Oh and the fact that it winds the green people up, also makes me more drawn towards the RR...is that wrong? haha.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate and breakdown of their yearly costs?

Also advice on whether the Diesel is more reliable than the Petrol? I assume Vogue is a better spec than the HSE too?

Sorry for all of the questions.

Liam

Im having trouble selling mine at the moment. its in the classfieds and i have had it on eBay twice with crazy low offers. 2002, Blue, with cream and 62,000 miles on LPG too. Any suggestions?
Do you have a link?...I may be interested...email me if you wish.

Thanks for all of your replies. Maybe all this "taxation" on large vehicles is actually good for buyers and is actually making these cars more affordable to buy. The offset between the tax and how much the car costs to buy second hand are in a way cancelling one another out.

The only people affected are the people that buy these cars brand new.
