VAT registration query

Chaps, is it possible to find out if a Ltd company is VAT registered?

Thanks Eric, I have an invoice but no VAT or company reg numbers shown. No vat on invoice total either...

I'm not being asked to pay VAT but have been invoiced by someone who I think should be registered. Having received an invoice that shows very few details I want to check that the invoice is correct legally before I raise concerns.

So, I take it that unless I ask the person/s concerned directly there is no way of checking?
