Hi Guys
I have been working as the Fitness Manager of a large club for the past 11 years and before this for many years; my degree is in Sport Science.

I have an idea which I was hoping some of you may offer some guidance and whether you think it sounds any good.

If you take last night as an example, I must have seen 5 different new members all of which wanted a programme put together. As always I was equipped with a blank programme card, a pen and a clip board.

For each of those clients I had to write down the name of the equipment or exercise, the duration, the level, possibly RPM/SPM or the like.
Even though each programme was tailored for each client very often the kit used is the same.

What if there was a handheld style device, similar sixe to an ipad that had all the equipment names built in and all the exercises.
I could then just tap for example treadmill, input the duration and level and so forth and print off the programme card remotely once complete.

It would save a fair bit of time and would enable the final programme to be e-mailed directly to the client if they wished.

Does this sound any good??

I have the contacts already with the big boys like Technogym and know how the industry works.

Cheers!

Not sure why you've posted. To give your business idea away?

Seems like an idea that might work, but your audiance might be limited. A fairly straight forward thing to make though.
Hi
Thanks for you input.

I put the idea/concept out there for advice.

If someone wants to take the idea and run with it then that's great and I will even assist if I can smile

I did think about the app idea.....

Someone mentioned the Technogym key system.
The way this works is the programme is written in the normal fashion before the instructor uploads it onto the 'key'.

My idea would remove the need for the instructor to write it up, it could be transferred directly and instantly to the key!

Cheers so far guys!

Hi
If I wanted to pursue this idea, what would be the first port of call?

I checked on-line through patent search function; I searched for 'exercise mobile programming' and 'fitness mobile programming' and nothing specific came up.

Technogym had a few hits under those searches but that was more specifically for the software used in their equipment.

I guess the cheapest and easiest way for this to run would be as a smart phone app?

Cheers

That type of application is already available using Apps.
myfitnesspal and others etc. i would recommend jefit as been one of the best examples. Good interface and everything mpst people need.
They can be tailored to show number of reps, weight etc.

The actual interface, would be biggest issue.
You probably dont want to design and manufacture something!
So in real terms you either need to buy something relativley inexspensive of the shelf. Or accept you use an app that you recommend for people to put on their own devices.

Nothing stopping you having your own ipad type device on initial consultation, and then maybe uploading your routine, to the clients app on their own device?
simply as they could have the app automatically sync to a full online version for them to easily track their progress.
and ammend their workout routine if necessary.
Hi
Thanks for your input.

Are the apps that you mention; like jefit / myfitnesspal etc specifically developed and intended for individuals to monitor and track their own performance?? I thought that they were.....

The market that I am talking about are your regular gym users who book in to see people like me who then develop their programmes.

My app/device would be for the professional fitness instructors and personal trainers.

Cheers
