Had my current Nokia phone for 4 years now and I have always liked Nokia hardware.

In the meantime I have had an Android phone but got rid of it because Android is crap IMO.

I was looking forward to Windows Phone but was put off by a few things, the new Mango update appears to have resolved most of them.

With Nokias new Windows Phone expected out imminently - it could be that we will have a very decent hardware and software package on offer.

I have played with HTC, Apple and Samsung manufactured phones but I am looking forward to seeing what Nokia come up with, A couple of designs have been leaked but nothing confirmed yet - but expected next week.

I had HTC Sense but preffered the base Android UI.

I quickly learnt that Apps are not all about numbers and Android badly needs this so call harsh system Apple have before they allow Apps onto the market. Quality no quantity after all.

The Nokia Lumia 800 looks nice in black.

People will whinge that it doesnt have groundbrekaing specs but who cares. Wish it was a bit cheaper though.

---

Manufacturers really need to stop trying to copy Apple launches. Apple launches are a bit crap but ones that are 10 tiems crapper are very crap.

Not sure about the blue one, I think the glass meeting the blue doesnt quite work for me. Black blends better

Will have to check them out in 'real life' though - apparently the build quality and feel is really good.

Its up there with the best in terms of design IMO.

I wish the screen extended more to the edges and the unit itself was smaller - iPhone size or less woudl be ideal - but its only a tiny bit bigger than the iPhone anyway.

Apparently the 800 has USB storage access which no other Windows phones have - so maybe they are already getting leeway.

I believe Samsung will have some new phones out for WP7 soon as well so it shall be interesting.

I'm a PAYG man so I will prob buy one outright if the price is right.

300 would be ideal but i got a feeling it will be 350ish - in which case it will have to feel very nice.

I'll be going for the 800. It is about 400 and something Euros which I calculated as £360 on release day IIRC.

Dunno why anyone would go for the 710 unless they were REALLY on a budget. Its larger than the 800 and generally poorer spec all round. I might have gone for the 710 if it was lower spec but retained the same shape as the 800 and was physically smaller.

Nokia would have died unless they had switched to WP7/Android because the masses that they need to sell phones to would want either of those OSes.

They may die under MP7 but they would have died anyway under the old OS.

I am glad they switched to WP7 but if I was in charge I would have gone for Android as sales are likely to be better.

MS needed Nokia more than Nokia needed them IMO. But Nokia needed something - big time.

What is the general concensus on battery time? struglging to decide whether to get the lumia or omnia - battery life is a BIG issue.

I have a "My Orange" app, and Mrs J has a similar one for T-Mobile.

There's also one for Three.

Dunno about Vodafone and O2.
I am on Tesco - their online account is far from fancy - will have a look if they let you view useage.

You do have to wonder about MS, all the build up the Windows Phone and they released an OS that lacked many basic features that others had. They then upgraded to 7.5 and it still lacks some basic features*

Now they are talking about WP 8 and still talking about matching the others - why not go ahead and do something better FFS?

Anyhow, I don't expect WP8 to be out for quite a few motnhs yet

Some of the lacking features that would really stop me recommending WP7 to others
- you cannot stop the screen rotating when you lie down in bed which is annoying (no app to do this)

- there is no in built data useage tracking for wifi and data (no app to do this)

- no way of turnign on/off wifi from homescreen (apps give you a shortcut to the menu)

- internet explorer have various tweaks it could do with - i.e the optionto allow you to open tabs in the background and not overtake the screen you are looking at.

There are others I am sure. I like WP7 but it does lack some which makes it frustrating.

Windows 7.8 has been nothing short of a shambles.

Customer service is one of the most important thing MS need before they try to compete with competitors but they can't even get that right.

Yes but there has been a whiff of Windows 7.8 coming for something like 8 months. It seems to have been continually delayed and my manufacturer Samsung still hasnt released it

Quick search shows 7.8 was mentioned June last year with it due outt early 2013 which is what I recall

http://www.wpcentral.com/microsoft-unveils-windows...

As a consumer - if my W7 device bites the dust in a years time I think I would be dubious about buying another Windows phone if they have announced Windows 8.

I meant 9. In a years time I'd be reluctant to buy an 8 if a 9 has been announced.

Also they still haven't introduced a way of stopping the screen rotating - almost reason enough to get a different OS!
