3 hours more battery life with chip change

Which is all very well, but how on earth you supposed to know if you have 2,4? Someone said it will have the iCloud logo on the box, which mine does, but getting conflicting reports. Anyone have a concrete way of finding out?

Battery life is not an issue on any of iPads IMHO
Erm, it's not an issue being reported, it is an upgrade to the chip, which gives more battery life.

In my opinion the battery on my 3 doesn't last anywhere near as long as my 2.

I'm not that happy with my 3 to be honest.
It does have a lot more stuff to power.

I did read there was an app that would be able to tell you, can't remember the name unfortunately though! Will have a dig around to see if I can find the link anywhere.
Magic. It was suggested that battery 'something or other' pro tells you, but it never. Nor did my iPad info app.

It's not really upgrading, it's just processor develop, ent and evolution. Technology improves...
Well, it is a better, more efficient chip thingy, and the benchmarks the articles seem to have have it with a not insignificant improvement.

<sigh> OK it's not a strict definition upgrade. Upgrade/update. Same bloody thing. Never mind. Forget I even mentioned it.

So you went for an ipad2, how are you finding it compared to the original ?

I can see why you want to know if you have the upgrade rather than old stock, my ipad2 which I have had since last September has been used all day every day and the battery has been excellent smile
I never felt I was having any issues with the original, but felt frisky in the store when I was buying another laptop. It is a lot smoother, and noticeably quicker. Haven't had any safari crashes either, which is nice. Also nice to be able to Skype and FaceTime from my hammock, rather than from the macair.

It wasn't meant like that. frown

I deal with heavy duty IT kit for a living. All I was saying is that this is not an unusual practice. If you've got a 2.4, then great - if not, would you have ever known, without the press reports? My guess is you would have been perfectly happy.
I am happy, and haven't said otherwise, but finding out about 2,4 means I then want to find out how I know what I have. Now as it is a wifi I would imagine it is 2,1, but with this news how would I know? It is a matter of curiosity more than anything else. I am more than happy with my 2.

I'm not that interested to spend 69p to find out! I'm all about free software! As an example of the curiosity, someone asked earlier about libraries and WMP. I don't use it, but I went off to find out, because I'm a curious sort of chap.

Thanks. I'll have a look at some once I get some files in there.

They are normally crash reports so will show up once your ipad crashes.
The hardware model should be listed in any crash report (so if an app crashes that .plist will have it too)
Yup, I've looked through those before when safari was crashing on my fat pad. Also had a look in there for temp info. Thanks for the info.

Question is, why have they done this on the sly? Surely it's a good thing and it's not the end of the world if you don't have it.
No-one is saying it is the end of the world, bad, or anything else negative. I was basically wondering how to find out.

Eh? I wasn't talking about you.
I never said you were, but from the comments on some of the articles people are no complaining, or being negative. No-one has said anything close to what you posted. Like them, I was trying to find out the score, and how to find out if you do, or don't have it.
