Advice needed on a new Tablet for my 6 year old

It's my son's 6th Birthday in a few weeks. We want to buy him a tablet as he always wants my ipad4 whenever i need it.

What do you recommend around £250? I'm swaying away from an Ipad Mini Retina as i'm fed up with iTunes. My son likes a few movies on it for journey's etc and doing it with Handbrake/iTunes is a pain. I'm thinking about the new Galaxy Tab S 8.4. I now its customisable and putting movies on it is not a problem. It also has expandable SD slot so no worries there.

Are there any alternatives you would recommend? Also the cheapest way to get the Tab S?

I've just put an order on for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 for £224, most tend to be around the £280+ mark. I appreciate the Hudls are good but i want something i can use for work occasionally too.
