I see on Tescos page they have released the specs of the new Hudl.Bigger HD screen, faster quad core processor and 16GB memory. Having bought the Hudl for my son last Christmas, being quite impressed with it and being a bit of an Android fan, Im seriously thinking this (with a keyboard) could be worth having for browsing etc and be a replacement to my constantly crashing ancient MacBook. Screen size will take getting used to but might be worth a punt.

I know wink I have lots of experience with the original Hudl, and the camera was pretty shocking in almost every measure. That and the fact that the micro-usb port seemed to be made of cheese, which is pretty bad considering it was partially aimed at children. I'd have thought it would be a bit harder to deform than it is. Hopefully that's something the 2 addresses.
Tesco replaced the unit down to a faulty usb port. Ive now told my son to charge it while he is asleep and not to play with it plugged in.
He seems to have got the message since he had to start again with his Minecraft world....

Yes the wi-fi is pretty weak compared to other devices,I hope they've improved that
I installed a wifi app that automatically reconnects if the signal drops and gives you info on the connection. We have a sky booster bix in our bedroon and he has no problem with the signal in the room across the landing.

Went out today looking for one to have a nose at, none of the local stores had one but they did have some 8" tablets and have come to the conclusion it would be too small to replace the Mac. Mainly because the missus does online ordering for shopping and 8" screen was too little to see everything.

We did however see some 11" laptops, and a bit of research Ive decided on a Dell Chromebook 11. A bit more expensive (£100 more) but a proper keyboard, 10 hrs from the battery, 4gb ram and 16gb memory.

I didn't buy one in the end but I did recommend it to my dad who rang me whilst standing in Tesco's, complaining about the crappy tablet he had already bought. I've not heard back from him so not sure if he bought one.

Although twice the price I'm glad I went with the Dell Chromebook, fast enough and once you get your head around how it works its actually pretty good. I like typing on a physical keyboard and using a track pad.
We bought a Epson e-printer at the weekend and it took all of 5 minutes to set up and time wise was faster to print out a page from being sent via Google cloud than either of our hard wired Mac's!
